Rem Model 7 KS

Define heavyweight.
It would be relative to the type of rifle they are used on.

I use heavy all-steel (weaver type) rings and bases on my 375Magnum, but LW mounts on my faux TI 257Roberts.

My point was that all-steel mounts with a big scope defeats the purpose of a custom LW rifle. ;)

Right now it's wearing a Leupold M8-4x, about as light as one can get in a quality scope IMO.
Even with the lightest base/ring set-up that'll work on the 3 screw M7, I believe I'd only lose a couple of ounces. My biggest gripe with the Leupold base isn't so much the weight,it's the rear windage attachment, there's not much of a contact point between ring and base.

As the gun has no open sights, a quick detach mount/ring combo isn't something I find absolutely necessary.

On Talley's website, there's a picture of a lightweight one piece base/ring combo, but I can't find any info on it.

I have several Custom KS rifles in 350RemMag and really like them. One was set up by previous owner with steel weaver type bases and Warne quick release rings (see pics below). As Supercub notes, it's not the lightest but does work. He drilled and tapped the forth hole. The scope is a 1.5x5 Leup.

BTW you can tell the year and month of manufacture by the two letters stamped on the barrel just ahead of the receiver (pic below). I have the date chart if interested.

Very nice, thanks for the pics and info. I did find out the date from an e-mail to Remington, 1991.

I also just had a look at Talley's website. They make a one piece steel base for the 3 screw Model 7. That combined with the steel split rings should make a very solid set-up. I'm not worried about a couple of oz. here or there. It also looks more "finished" than a rectangular Weaver slab.

While I could have someone drill a 4th hole, I don't feel like sending the gun away and there's no smith in my vicinity I trust.

Nice rifle, that 7/08. :)

I have all the fixens here for a M700 faux TI in 7/08. Just got to get around to getting it done.

- Matte blued and trued 700 BDL action.
- SS TI bbl in 7/08.
- TI take off stock.
- Talley LW ex-low rings.
- Leupold VXII 2x7 or FX-II 4x matte.
- Redding dies.
- Got bullets, need brass. (Got brass thanks to Blargon :) )

.

Instead of calling it a "faux" Ti, why not just call it what it really is, a Remington 700 parts gun...

;) :p
