Stopped while carrying?

Of Course you can carry a Non restricted firearm in the Woods and not be hunting .
where the hell are you supose to shoot at Ranges only!!! not everyone hunts eh ?
I see some of you guys are posting the correct info from the Regs thanks eh thats good for new members that read some of the wrong info posted here.
Some places dont have ranges and or are miles away.
Lotsa guys carry guns into the woods just to target shoot or when trapping mineing logging and have no intent to hunt.
some ride on horses with no intent on hunting but want a Shotty or rifle just in case there attacked by a bear or cougar Yotes ect.

As far as needing a Licence for Ammo i think thats more wrong info.
Yes to buy made up ammo but you dont need any Licence to buy the components and reload your own.
Check the Laws you can buy Powder and primers and bullets all the reloading gear and cases and load up some ammo take your antique out and shoot it all without a Licence im pretty sure thats correct guys but check to be sure id not want to give someone wrong info.

Gophers are a pest, but here are some other examples taken from the regs (other species) for Alberta:

Perhaps it's you that needs to read up. And as another poster noted, antique pistols do differ in the transport laws from restricted.

I think that you read wrong and are quoting wrong. It talks about wolf/coyote license, not hunting license.

NOT loaded. You can go out in the bush and shoot your antique handgun, where does it say that you are allowed to take it out of the locked container when arriving "in the bush"?

Transporting to a location in the bush where you set up a target and shoot is different than carrying a loaded handgun in the bush.

And yes, you can buy reloading components without license but when the final round is finished and you don't have a license, ...

People got charged for having a single round of 22 lr lose in their possession at home - unsafe storage.

I think you will have a hard time explaining why you have handgun ammunition in your possession but no license. Just my 2 cents when I look at the current discussions in politics.

In BC... The conservation officer just has to think you were hunting and they can charge you if you have a firearm with you. Then you would have to prove you didn't. It's to stop poachers who didn't get anything ect ie they are in a park with guns hunting but just say nope we didnt because they don't have an animal with them ect.

They can charge you, but the onus of proviong guilt relays on the CO to prove. It it not illeagal to be in the bush with a gun as long as your licenced to have a firearm. Not everyone hunts and in more remote areas you have to target shoot somewhere.

FAC doesn't exist anymore, old FAC have to do a PAL test and apply for a new license, This is old stuff.

Try reading the whole thing; it mentions them all.

What do you mean read wrong; quoted wrong!? That's verbatim right from a copy of the regs.

So just how do you shoot without loading? I think you also didn't read the regulations concerning antiques.

I've given you the regs just as they are written, I don't know how you can get all these wild ideas, if you've actually read them.

Try again, read slower.f:P:

I think you are partly correct, don't want to get too hung up on hunting regulations cause they are different everywhere and doesn't apply everywhere and

yes, you can transport the antique to the shooting area and load there, no need to carry loaded - which is the actual topic.

Sorry, but you are the one not reading.

These are direct quotes right from the regs. The "antique" guys in here seem to agree on it. If you would like to find it, I would read the regs that seem to support your view. But you do not seem to be in agreement with what the gov literature itself says.

I've quoted B.C. and Alberta; didn't delve into the others. As the B.C. literature acknowledges, firearms beyond hunting use is strictly a federal matter.

In respect to the shooting of the firearm, transport is different than use. But everywhere the thing can be shot, it can also be loaded and kept loaded until shot. So you could walk around with it loaded anywhere it's legal to use.

Thats right ^ its "in Use" as soon as your in the area to legally discharge it out of your transport vehical.
Nothing in the regs anywhere says i need to use a Paper target bought from some store .

This thread has me wanting to drown myself in the bathtub.... The regulations are readily available for any individual to read themselves.....

Yeah, and yeah ........ and yeah again.

The patience, forebearance and the determination to continue to dispell, yet again, the same old misconceptions, ... makes this relative newcomer shake his head in wonder at the antiques forum's few genuine patriarch's capacity for frustration.

This is what those same few gent's taught me, and not that long ago:

Read the Law.

Understand it, in it's refreshingly unambiguous clarity.

Obey.

Be discrete. Carefull. Non-confrontational, in your antique use.

Bring no grief to this fine brotherhood of ours.

Enjoy the hell outta your firearm.

So in other words, be the same polite person you should always be. out with your toys or not. I'll tell you a story from earlier this year, a bunch of us were out Gopher slaughtering, buut, we ended up on the wrong field, anyway the Farmers wife comes highballing out into the field and asks us who gave us permission to shoot on their property, The fellow in our group that got permission to shoot on the "other" field gave her the info, she responded with the a- okay to continue, all the while eyeing up my Colt, So, we invited her and her son to let loose with a few rounds, I asked her if she would like to try out my pistol and she got giddey, " My grandfather used to take us out shooting with one of these." was the reply. she wasn't a bad shot either. Could it have gone bad, sure, but politness counts and as it turned out we got another field to shoot on. And, the sky didn't fall either.

No, not true. They need to have evidence you were poaching before they can charge you. Carrying a gun in the bush is not evidence of poaching.
In regards to carrying a gun (any gun) in the bush, some people here have replied accordingly, sorry, I cannot reply to this comment since I don't understand what you are trying to say. And yes, I have a resident hunter card and I can look up all regulations for BC in my small booklet if I am in doubt.

Good, look up the part that says you may not target shoot or carry a gun on Crown Land without a hunting license if you are not hunting. Can't find it? Because it is not there....

.
And NO, you cannot go hunting in the bush for any species without any license as you mention, you may not need a tag or there is no bag limit et
c.

Well, you can in BC for some animals. They are called "Schedule C" animals and no Lic or tag needed. Might want to read your booklet.

.

I think that Gatehouse' comment could more correctly be stated as they need evidence that you were successful in poaching. If you are wandering around in the bush with a gun commonly used for hunting, during hunting season and no indication that you are target shooting, you would probably be charged with hunting without a license.

The issue is; if charges are recommended (it is the prosecutor who charges you) whether your defense is successful or not, you are going to be out of pocket many hundreds to thousands of non recoverable dollars in legal expenses. A hunting license seems cheap money to me.

LEO and 'antique'

OK - so far in this discussion, we've had two anecdotal reports of people wearing 'antique' handguns (a previous time the topic came up and the current one) and showing them to citizens who thought they were cool.

They were lucky and I don't think I'd welcome the opportunity. I don't have that level of trust in this day and age.

BUT - we haven't had a single account of someone encountering a LEO/CO while wearing and/or shooting an 'antique' in the boonies.

We need a a 'test case'. Any volunteers ..... ?

This was a good question and had potential to be an interesting thread, however instead of only the people who have actually had the experience sharing there encounters with us we got a whole bunch of legal arguing which has been covered a thousand times over. It seems to me every time someone posts a thread about antique handguns there a few people who cannot seem to stick to the topic and feel they have to put in there own views and opinions on whether its legal or a good idea or whatever. The fact is the op and lot of others dont care what your opinion is, he very clearly asked for actual encounters. If we wanted to hear whether it was a good idea or not or if its legal and so on, dont you think someone would post a topic on that ? OH WAIT THERE IS A STICKY FOR ALL THIS BS ALREADY.

Ok rant over
