A Romanian PSL. Damn close. I would if I could amigo. Born too late:p

snuck out the shop to put a few more coats on the rear stock. It should be ready soon. I'm trying to decide on weather to keep the tint the spar orange/brown, tint with iodine or use the rit liquid dye(wine) for a darker red furniture. Either way the furniture should be finished by this weekend. (pay no attention to the one in the background... its for a VSS Vitronez I'm working on as well)

I haven't been able to source a SVD flash hider. And the one I did find from a Belgian FN FAL I didn't like the as it only had 3 vents. But this week I was able to source a new Canadian version (supposed to be a bit more accurate due to the larger end opening as well) which should work well. I don't believe there is enough 'meat' to use a thread so I'll have to weld it on... hopefully straight.:D

Why don't you pin it

you could try pinning it but I bet you could thread it. Send me or post the dimensions and i will do the math for the single depth of thread and find out if you can thread it. It looks great by the way. If you go over to surplusrifle there is a member there who has a good recipe for russian coloured stains. handle is candyman.

Just a quick bit of an update. Its been a busy summer but I finished the rough fitting this afternoon. Now all it will be is some finishing work and it should be ready for a trip to the range... or hunting for that matter:)

I have to figure out a way to clean out some of the slag from the inside from my weld job on the flash hider from an FN-C1 and I'll likely have to make another new rear stock as I messed up some of the custom fitting a bit... but at least I'll know what to do next time. As it sits it all cycles, feeds and breaks down for cleaning... except for the not being able to screw on the gas assembly/flash hider all the way yet due to the internal slag:mad: but as soon as I get that figured out it should be good to go:dancingbanana: Just some finishing, a bit of welding and a refinishing of the wood so it matches. It'll come...

[to my knowledge they have fluted chambers let me look at work tomorrow ill get back to you;)

Just curious, but couldn't a compromise be made on the parts that require altering? So far the front sight/FH assembly and the cocking handle are the only parts that can't be covered or masked....

So why not see about pulling the SVT front sight/bayo lug/brake assembly and simply mounting an SVD assembly? If the barrel diameter is greater on the SVT then the SVD assembly can be remounted onto a larger diameter mount, and if it's smaller, it can be shimmed..... The SKS, SVT and SVD all use press fitted and pinned front sight/bayo/FH assemblies as far as I can tell, so not like it's a big deal to swap them out.

In all seriousness, gun owners are so set into "my way or the highway" that they end up argueing when a compromise would usually work better, be easier and satisfy both parties.... just that generally gun owners phrase their opinions so offensively and badly that both sides just end up yelling at each other.

P.S. A question for those in the know - do SVD's have fluted chambers to ease extraction? I ask because that's always been my one complaint over the SVT and I'm wondering if they carried it over to the SVD. If I had my druthers I'd have an SVT without the fluted chamber, since mine is very unlikely to get as dirty as is required to benefit the fluted chamber.

Of course.. there's always an endless supply of the currently popular military surplus rifle that will never run out. There was an endless supply of Johnsons, Garands, Lee Enfields...endless.. and now there's an endless supply of SVTs, Mosin Nagants, SKSs...endless.

I agree this project is blasphemy .... all these dumbasses back in the day that sporterized K98s and other now rare rifles are kicking themselves in the ass now .. anyway a real SVT is 10 times cooler than a fake SVD..

Yup! You're 100% correct Sparky... in many ways. The Germans far preferred them over the K98's as well.

You're probably also correct that people shouldn't do anything to change their rifles. We should all leave our rifles just the way you think we should, with no modifications. I'm sorry. Please accept my most sincere apologies. Your persuasive position has helped me see the error of my ways and the true meaning of Christmas. Bless you Sparky, Bless you.

You're are truely a brave little soldier to share you opinion so tactfully to help poor me, clearly a wayward sheep in dire need of your guidance and tutelage. I am in you debt.

still think you should have used my original stock set. I don't mind, ended up selling it in the US for $200 more.

Good to see you made some cash. It definately would have been a better option but I'd already ordered the blanks by that time and as it turns out I would have just ruined it with my first attempt anyway so it's probably for the best. If you have another one in the closet though let me know;)

the rifle looks amazing you are doing a kickass job. please ignore all the haters. if everyone was like that we would still be hunting with spears

Maybe you could start making more and selling them.

I would buy one, garunteed, no matter what the price is!!!!!!!!:D

Bump, just because it's awesome.

I'd be interested in seeing video, more detailed pictures, range photos, range results, or video of shooting... pretty much anything :p ;)
