Verifiers Network and tech. e-mail

I sent an e-mail to the same address earlier this week. Let me know if it's the right one, and what you learn, the tech said 3 days was normal right now.

It's the right email address since I have communicated with them for something else yesterday, but I'm still waiting on this letter from the 7th! :(

They told me up to two weeks to get a letter........

Next time tell them you need a letter to import an antique. When I got one for that purpose (a couple years ago) I had it the same afternoon.

I am not sure getting antique letters is a good thing. By calling these guys, are we not increasing attention to antiques and also essentially, by providing the CFC with our contact details etc, "registering them?"

I realise that the worst case scenario of Big Brother will come banging on your door asking who you "sold them to" is unlikely but getting these letters seems to only create statistics which may prove to be hurtful in the long run.

From what I read, antiques do not need a letter to be legal, ie the letters only help if you happen to get pulled over, questioned at a range, or stopped out in the bush while packing your antique, at which time you can offer up this letter. My suspicion is that the LEO would probably confiscate the weapon in the short term regardless of what the paper says.

It's official, they're not picking up the phones any more. Spent 15 minutes as "first in queue" today with the voice continuously "updating" my position, then it kicked over and said "we are currently closed, please leave a message".

So far this week, 6 messages left on their answering machine. Called the CFC general staff and they said the verifiers were open, but might be short staffed and not answering the phone. :(

Well, time to spam them with emails :)

I called the techs in Ottawa today to paper two Webley WG army revolvers (both antique status) I am importing. The process thy put me through was essentially the regular on-line registration process. They gave me a FRT and everything, the system correctly classified the revolvers as ANT (antique). I got the impression that they use this method for licensed individuals who are already in the system, and another procedure would be applied for no-licensed individuals. Regardless now I have to wait for them to send me a letter, so no quick fax forth coming. I may just forward the transaction confirmation to the seller if they take the usual month plus to process (although the verifier said I should have it by the end of the week). Regardless I cant say I like having to go through the registration process for my antiques.

Then don't. When I bought gun from the USA I had the seller state the Make, Model, Caliber, Age & Serial # along wit the fact that it's "antique & obsolete" on the box and I never had a problem.

Customs declaration: "Antique -- Pre 1898".

Anyone who knows what that is will know you're following the letter of the law. The rest will not get unduly excited.

** Update: Back to two weeks now, for the latest letter. Email:

sfss-firearmident@rcmp-grc.gc.ca

Send the details of your jewel, and they reply with the instructions you need to follow to "attempt registration", at the end of which they review your application and send that antique letter. Extension 1090 is working too.
