Bushmaster ACR Non-Restricted Review & Range Report

Aco-worker was going back and forth between the XCR and the SL*. In teh end I guess he decided to go with the virtues of the Germans (attention to detail and history of quality) over those of Utahians (plural marriage and weak beer).

Range update from today added to the first post.

Thanks for the update. I was hoping you would have tried some 77gr match (REM or FGMM) I was expecting more of a sub .7-.8 average moa with this;) I know I will be spending some $$$ for semi target 223 NR. Might be interested in a 300BLK barrel for it too:D

With what you have show us, someone who handload could easily get 0.5 moa out of this match barrel from questar.

I have to say this is impressive for a semi-auto, who have not see many rounds, no handload and a low power scope. Credit is to your rifle and you :)

Now i just want to know when they will release the 6.8 kit.

Maybe. The main limiting factors with these rifles are the gas piston system. Accuracy potential is where the DI of the AR can't be beat for semi auto. I'd be interested to see what these can shoot. .5 moa? I think .75 moa is more likely with 5 rounds and centre to centre measurement. But right now until we see more range reports, especially with match grade triggers and decent target scopes it's hard to speculate. I'm looking forward to reading more reviews and opinions about this rifle.

All someone needs to do is make a DI conversion kit (####) and your all set.

All kidding aside, I am really impressed with the ACR for getting to where its gotten in such a short time.

I do like the ACR and I like the fact that Questar has a stainless match barrel. The only issue I have right now is price. As for the DI conversion. Heck a DI upper with free float match barrel would be nice. When you see AR rifles such as the Stag 6R with it's 1/2 moa guarantee, it goes to show you the type of accuracy possible. If I were these guys I'd probably make such an upper. Get costs down, and try to win over the AR crowd. Possibly that's what we'll see if they introduce the aluminum lower that takes more AR components. I can dream. Unfortunately while not likely, it still seems more possible than the AR being reclassified as non restricted.

waiting for my Questar match barrel to arrive, anyone have any tips on how to go about re-registering the ACR as a non restricted rifle after I do the barrel swap?

You should just be able to call in and tell them the change. They will likely ask you the manufacture and length of the new barrel. Since there is already an FRT# for the Non-Res ACR with the Questar SS 18.7" barrel, it should not be a drawn out process.

great, thanks for the info!

Awesome rifle and great reviews, thanks....seeing the ACR in its non restricted glory makes me super angry the AR is restricted, making me want to fight(legally) for the re-classification of the AR, but at the same time we shouldn't use the ACR vs. AR arguement because it will put the(what the antis would say) loophole in the lime light..

It's not a loophole. We shouldn't be referring to this distinction as a loophole. These classifications are based on the definitions set out in the legislation.

Loophole has such a negative connotation.

I know its not a loophole but thats what the antis would use in their argument, i remember reading an article where the antis said the cz line of rifles where not prohiobited because of loophole in the AK variant law...

edit...found the article
