Japanese Soldiers on the lam from the authorities

I have Onoda's book. Great read. However European holdouts are even more unknown.
Werewovles packed it in 1947.
Lithuanian Freedom fighters finally surrender to Russian exterminators by 1955.
And a Canadian Vet who has more than a passing interests in Navy affairs told me a few years back that a Kriegsmarine U boat was last seen travelling somewhere up a S American river as late as 1997.
There are no doubt thousands of simular stories from all parts of the world.

The last of the Estonian Forest Brothers (Metsavennad) hooked himself under a submerged log and drowned himself to avoid capture by KGB agents in 1978. He was 69 years old.

A famous Polish war hero with the AK was killed in a shootout with the authorities in 1963. :(

Anyone ever read anything on convicted turncoat and traitor Robert Garwood during the Vietman War?

When I was attending gunshows in Bradenton, FL in the late 1990s there was a U Boat vet who used to have a table chock-a-block with U Boat stuff- bells, whistles, books, flags, crests, photos, badges, beer steins, etc(no fridge magnets though;)). I used to chat with him. Last time I was there 10 yrs ago he had died, but his wife was still carrying on.

Maybe this fellow was a crew member who decided to bale after eyeballing the chicks on the Florida beaches:eek: on his way to a lifelong exile up the Orinoco or the Amazon.;)
