I've done it, and here are the pics of how I built it. Pics are dark, dull day no sun made my garage dark. But you should get the idea.

This is the sheet brass, and square tube brass.
clipguide1.jpg

Using the wide sheet brass, I made a square using the mag as a guide for the size. The brass was bent in a vice. Notice the cut out for the lug. Also, the two met ends were reenforced with half a square tube.
clipguide2.jpg

Notice it is also nice a tight against the mag.

Next was to make the clip guide, which uses the smaller width sheet, and two small square tubing lengths that match the wide of the metal in the clip. I used the clip and soldered the square tube in place to get the spacing right.

Next was to add the lip onto the square tube to hold the clip in line. Thus a "C" assembly on each side to hold the clip straight.
clipguide4.jpg

This was then soldered onto the back of the box with a clip in place to make sure the spacing was correct.
clipguide5.jpg

This is then cut off and trimmed down. Of course, has to be tested. WORKS!!! w:h: Little tight, but that can be filed down.
clipguide6.jpg

Next the sides of the box are cut down so fingers can get to the top of the mag.

clipguide7.jpg

This has to be tested. SMOOOOTTHHHHH!! One would think I knew what I was doing.:D

Lastly edges filed round and cleaned. Then painted and set aside to dry.

Took about 2 hours, with a few mistakes along the way.

Hey, NEA, how about one of these, eh?

I was gonna convert a AK 47 mag charger. Then I thought why? I can only load five rounds at a time so the idea sat in the far recesses of my mind. You Sir have done a fine job how much to make me a couple?

Thanks.

Now I know what has to be done, mistakes made and fixed, should be fairly quick to make a few more. Next is one for my M14 mags.

I did have to make an addition. I've been testing, testing, testing, and found a snag. The tips of the bullets would occationally catch the front of the lip on the mag, there is about 2mm of space for a round to clear it. So I added a sloped length of brass to the front of the charger to guide the front of the rounds into the mag. Much better.

I'll make another for myself and see how long it takes. Need to get more brass though. Problem is every time I go into the hobby store I have a hard time keeping my paws off a new model kit that has arrived. Life is too short for all the hobbies I want to do:mad:

If you wouldn't mind, please post the thickness of sheet brass you used for making the main box. Also, did you soft solder it together, silver solder, or braze? (I'm not that familiar with working with brass, please excuse my ignorance. The other reason I'm asking is that I'm wondering if aluminum sheet stock could be bodged into something similar - I have that on hand, but I'd have to buy the brass)

Looks like a sweet project, and I'm going to follow your lead and make one up for myself - and maybe a similar one for the M4 mags, now that you've put the idea in my head.

Thanks for posting!

Can't solder aluminum. The main box brass is about a 1mm thick. I'll get the stock number next visit. I just picked one that looked thick enough to keep shape, but thin enough to bend. The rest of the brass I took the clip to the hobby store and just lined up the brass box-tube to match the thickness of the clip. But I will get the inventory of brass.

I soldered brass with normal copper pipe solder using flux applied to sanded surfaces. I used a torch. Clamps used to hold it together. Drummel of course.

I found a slight flaw in the back where the clip slides through, the clip goes down too far and not letting the last round stay in place. Will fix that tomorrow.

Many thanks. I knew you can't solder aluminum - I was thinking about making tack welds with the MIG and some aluminum wire. Or, take the whole thing over to somebody who has a TIG setup and bring a box of beer, LOL.

On the whole, it sounds like using brass will be a lot cheaper and simpler in the long run - brass is cheaper than beer! Already have a propane torch and some plumbers's solder.

Thanks for the info.

JRW, any idea what you'd charge to make a few?? I'm sure there's lots of Gunnutz who have CZ 858 or CSA rifles that would be interested. Could be a way for you to make some bucks for more ammo!!!!:D

Me, I'm too unskilled (with metal working anyway :D) and too damned lazy to make something like this myself.

Sure, will make as many as people want. Got the brass today. he only had enough to make 3 chargers. More will come in next week. So will build 3 on Sunday. See how long it takes to make them. It's about $12 for the brass each.

Ammo? Actually got my eye on adding a few goodies to my CZ;)

I'd be in for one if you're tooling up to make a few.....
