New CF Service Pistol

That's the deal killer right there, I understand the "National Security" aspect of actually having production capacity in place, but Glock/Sig/S&W/Ruger/FN et al isn't going to give Colt Canada a production license & TDP for it's product.

Maybe if they were building 250,000 for internal use, but 10K? That's maybe 1-1/2 months production, for a small company.

I understand that when Colt bought Diemaco, FN pulled the TDP for the C6 & C9 ~ does anyone really think they'll happily provide it for this??

I agree. That little proviso will likely reduce the field of candidates. Makes you wonder what options will be left...

Whats wrong with our sigs??? We must be running out of them, i have seen a few float tested when guys forget to clip them in while climbing the jumping latter...

The SIG version used by the MIL MP's has a 10rd mag capacity, which is just not reasonable for a LE officer IMO.

Once productions is up and running (assuming the initial order covers that cost) the opportunity to export globally without having to deal with US trade restrictions might be enticing to some US manufacturers. There's also the Canadian civilian market (small as it is), assuming it's a non-prohib model.

They could save a lot of effort by just buying new magazines for the BHPs.
The pistols aren't basd at all, but those 70 year old magazines need replacing.

Replace the mags & mainsprings and those "crappy worn out Inglis" will "magically" be capable of serving another 60 years.

Addition of a "no-bite" hammer and an extended/ambi safety lever would solve the ergonomic problems.

If they only need 10K new guns, just buy FN HP MkIII's.

However if they are actually serious about replacing all the No2MkI* & Sig 225/226/228 pistols, they are actually looking at more like a 25-30,000 minimum order.

All they have to do is buy new browning Hi Powers off the shelf. No magic. They'd be nice too. ....
+1 on this. The new models would be a nice replacement, and they come with functional mags ;) Heck I bought mine very slightly used for less than I have seen old beatup Canadian Inglis at gun shows (although those are tempting to reminisce about training)

Read the article again gentlemen.

General Service Pistol (GSP). Walther was never mentioned.

...the weapons will be produced in Canada by Colt Canada under licence.

Why the need for a new factory? How are the tax payers getting screwed?
Actually might provide some jobs...and there is where the screwing could
start. In the Kingdom of Dalton an employer can get a $10K tax credit for
every immigrant they hire! And some of you are worried about what gun
they are going to choose?

I think you don't understand the restrictions placed upon US manufacturers.

It's to the point (since the late 1980s) that American citizen weapons designers cannot work outside the country without approval. Technically the US Gov't owns the thoughts & ideas of American citizens.

The guns they design require US Gov't approval of the manufacturing country & all internal & export sales.

That's why Sullivan (and others) left the US in the 70's and had to return to the US in the 90's.

There to small "grip size P225"
The mag holds 8rds
Sig stopped making the P225 and we only have enough for the MPs

I think the Glock 17 and S&W M&P9 are the only logical choices for procurement - if cost will be underlying factor - which will likely be the only factor in whoever wins the contract.

I don't see the CF going with a polymer frame pistol for general issue. I'm thinking a 9m 1911 fits well into the picture, and tooling/licensing won't be an issue for Colt Canada.

I believe we only have a few hundred of the P225's in service. I think they were originally bought for the aircrews during the first gulf war and they were also given to the navy and MP's
Its a fine gun and easy to use.
