I think the original poster mentioning the Walther GSP was just poking fun at the acronym.... The Walther GSP is a 22 or 32 S&W Long target pistol for crap sakes...nowhere close to a combat gun....lol
 
Glock 17 is the real way to go. Already proven time and time again with military and police. The price is right as well.

I really hope Colt Canada acquires a license to build in Canada.
 
After reading the hotlinked document, I don't think the Glock will cut it... It says the trigger must only perform one function.... I am thinking the safety in the Glock trigger may take it out of the race...

Also, depressing the trigger must not be required during disassembly. So much for Glock.

Edit: though technically dry-firing could be considered part of the pre-disassembly safety check.
 
hmmm chrome barrel Mandatory well that narrows things down to a few pistols :(

Sounds like the Beretta 92D might win
 
It will be really interesting to see what comes of this.... As previously mentioned it is gonna be really expensive.... Colt has nothing in their line-up that comes close to filling the mandatories... Re-tooling a factory for a run of 10,000 pistols... Plus getting someone to basically sell the license for production to Colt Canada to build the guns...

the S&W M&P may fit the bill too

Needs a chrome barrel still

HK and Sig come close but crome barrel and backstraps are needed too

The contract is abit too stricked
 
I'd have to re-read the document, but with a few tweaks (chromed r blackened stainless bbl), a Para LDA 9mm with a Commander length slide and bbl would fill the bill.... I though about the Beretta, but I am thinking the grip size specs may knock it out of the race.....

The GSP must be in current
use within NATO and has
been in service for a
minimum of two years.

No Para or colt for you :D

As of February 2003:
The P-01 is now a NATO classified pistol and issued the NATO stock number NSN 1005-16-000-8619.


Purely my guess though. Read a C.F. report a few years back & I think the Glock, although liked, is out. Mostly due to ergonomics & the ability of smaller handed members having a hard time with it. I think a striker fired pistol with no external safety is out of the running....
A Sig or HK is probably a good guess, if the price point is ok. But it's not my guess....:D
