Surplus Irish Body Armour?

Ok, thanks guys. I'm still kind of unsure though. According to Harbl bigger would not fit. Yet earlier in this thread someone mentionned that they slipped the plates into a condor vest which is advertised as having 10x13 plate pouch. The UTG is 17x13 at front and 16x10 in the back. Confusing. I'm tall but skinny (6'5" - 195lbs) so I probably don't want the very smallest plates. The Zombie Apocalypse is quickly approaching so I've got to make up my mind soon. LOL!!!!!! :)

gun wielding zombies? D=

Most stuff on FrontierFirearms does have free shipping but not the vests. However shipping is only $15.

And UNAGI don't be silly, I'm talking about all the crossfire. duh. :)

Not to be a thread necro, but could someone who has a vest put a tape measure on the height and width of their front and back plates please? You'll have my everlasting gratitude!

Also, since I'm thinking about slipping the plates into an HSGI Wasatch, and want to get the biggest plate that will fit comfortably for me, did we ever get a conclusive answer on plate size variation from vest size to vest size?

Briefly, I'm just wondering if the plates found in an XL vest are the same size as a cheaper Medium. I've got no real interest in the vest fabric - but I'd like the plates.

Thanks in advance!

Xtra large has two 10"wide x 12" high plates.
If that helps.

Dude. Love you long time. :)

Thanks for that - now, does anyone have a medium or small, and are the sizes any different? I see Frontier has some really beat-up smalls/mediums, which wouldn't fit me in a million years (I wear a 54 Tall suit - football build) but if the plates are the same size I'm on it like a liberal on a government handout.

Just ordered 2 good condition mediums for me and the missus (they didn't have any smalls). It's an anniversary gift honey!!!

I'm sure she'll think I'm crazy as usual.

Crazy smart! I got my wife a lvl 2 vest instead, because of the weight issue. She wouldn't be able to avoid fire if she was carrying anything wearing this Irish stuff, it's a little heavy for 115 lb girl.

I bought a fair condition medium a couple days ago which I will hack into a Condor quick release plate carrier. I'm gambling that the plate sizes are the same across the different sized vests.

BTW, there's currently a large size vest that looks to be in really nice shape. (vest #29) I'm surprised it's been up for a few days with no takers yet.

anything with come out, if you use a razor.
I bought two for disection.
You can actually cut it out of the carrier.
Inside is the softarmour glued to ceramic plate inside another cover.
If you cut them out out of that cover, then you can access the plates, and soft armour. if you use brute force, flathead and some leverage, you can cam the plate from the soft armour.

I suppose that this stuff could fit inside modern plate / armour carriers. The soft armour would have to be trimmed to BALCS template. Good luck trying to find a pair of shears that will cut through kevalr.

BUt all the sweat, not sure if its worth it.

I cut mine apart as well, did you find the front and rear plates to be weirdly shaped cause mine were they almost looked like crooked tear drops:confused:

I could measure mine while inside the carrier... my carrier is in such nice shape, I haven't had the heart to hack it up for fashions sake. Cancel that, mine's a large.

What do they measure when in the carrier, if you don't mind me asking? If they're smaller than the X-Large measurements above, we'll have our answer... ;)

I'll measure tonight. The plates I mean, everything else doesn't need measuring, it's clearly adequate, more than adequate in fact. Not that I look at others to compare, in fact I look away. Not in a way that would be deemed insecure, in a slow, casual "I'm not interested, I have one of those" kinda way. Not lingering slow though, sort of a glance at my watch kinda speed. I don't even look down at the urinal, I stare straight ahead- I may even peeing on the floor, I can't be sure. Not that I think there's anything wrong with people who do look down, just as long as I'm not directly beside them. There should ideally be a one stall gap. Not that I'm afraid of them looking, as I said, everything is good there (if your into that sorta thing), in fact, I'm not afraid to show anyone, I may just wave it at someone on my drive home from work. At a stop light - safety first.
