If the rifle is intended to be used by the soldier who retired were a military call-up necessary, then why was it converted to be semi-automatic?
Last time I was in Switzerland, this rifle was still in service. At the train stations I saw many uniformed soldiers carrying this rifle using the carry handle. No one was frightened.
Now there is talk of ending the requirement of having the soldier take his service rifle home with him following his military service. This would be the beginning of the end for the citizen soldier. It would transform Swiss society more than they could know. It seems Schweiz is catching the same disease as the english-speaking nation states.
