I have a pre-64 model 70 which I purchased at an auction. I would like to get an estimate as to what it may be worth. It was manufactured in '52 and is 30-06. I will post pics soon.

my good friend MTM says I should keep buying pre-64's since I can;t afford new ones.

taking his advice I kept my eyes open and stumbled onto this guy from one of the board sponsors.

almost as nice as a new one and only 51 years old!

Pre-War .270, the barrel is an original replacement (made in '53, note rear sight is jackless), it left the factory as a .30-06 Match. Somebody got a nice integral sight ramp .270 barrel and put it on a long time ago. The safety and tang were markedly different from the Post-War's. The Pre-Wars also had a 90 degree shouldered bolt handle, Mauser style, as well as the milled and textured rear bridge sighting groove, and textured/wave milled receiver ring.

Here, I'll add another action shot to this old thread. My pre-64 Featherweight in 270, this was taken on last weeks bighorn hunt. I've put a Zeiss 3-9x40 on it in some Talley QDs. It was a great hunt. We're at about 7500 ft in this shot.

I'm just as impressed with your hunt Matt, like seeing people who get out their with their guns.
My hunting buddy and I talked at length about how awesome it is to live in a province where a guy can just buy a tag and go sheep hunting. Much of the world has to either pay a lot or wait years for a draw.

M70 pics

Picked up this model 70 from a local buddy earlier this year. It's a 1938 pre-war Super-Grade that was restocked and re-bored from .30-06 to .35 Whelen. Shot so well with 225gr. TSX's that I decided to take it to Alberta for elk/deer this September. Second morning of hunt I took this nice 6X6 elk, the following morning a nice 4X4 muley and the next a cinnamon blacky that was hitting our meatpole. This is now my "go to rifle".
Cheers
Geoff

not a great picture

Here is my start on pre 64s: 300H&H, 30-06 & 270 with a little love and the right handloads all 3 will keep them within an inch

Have a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight made in the late 50s (I'm not sure exactly what year) in .308 Win.

I'll have to run the serial number on one of those Winchester Model 70 manufacture date finding utilities on-line some day and post the gun on Photobucket so I can show it her.

I don't think it has had a box of ammo through it and is in immaculate condition.
