Most Similar Non-Restricted to AR-15?

You could always go with a Kel-Tec SU-16.

Yes, it's been modified a bit.

It seems it comes down to the AR180, Swiss arms, XCR, or the ACR...
But which one would be best for both tactical tasking and bear defense?

Haha... you played the 'Bear Defense' card! I will see your Bear Defense and raise you +1 Zombie Apocalypse. ;)

[*]The best non-restricted rifle similar to an AR15 is the XCR, as it takes the same accessoiries (grips, sights, stocks), has a almost identical safety lever and feels like a (heavy barreled) AR15.

And the accessorizing aspect would be where the similarities end. :D

The Swiss Arms rifles are great, but are not ergonomically similar to the AR (at least with the factory lower, I haven't tried one of the NEA lowers).

True, although to make it a bit more "AR-like" you are bumping the price a bit for the NEA lower/stock assembly. I've never been a big fan of the weight, but the quality/accuracy is certainly there.

My point was that you could use standard AR15 stock, grip, hand guards, sights and that major controls are similar (safety, mag release).
The XCR does feel like a barrel heavy AR15!

In truth nothing really replicates an AR15... except an AR15. The SCAR (minus the stock) would probably be the closest in terms of replicating feel/performance, but we're still waiting on those...

Even though the Swiss Arms rifles function completely different then and AR, I am kind of leaning towards it. Plus it seems like a very nice rifle and I have always wanted one.

I am coming at this from a slightly different angle, but one advantage that the Swiss Arms gun has in my mind is that it's made by Swiss Arms--by the same company that makes the full/real gun, and a company with a solid reputation for quality. To me that is worth a lot, as compared to a cheap imitation or knock-off. SCAR if it comes out would have that advantage too, and you might find an H&K that appeals to you. There are a few.

Of course you pay a lot more--quality costs.
