Long story short, 5 months ago I purchased 2 - Volquartsen 10/22 bolt handles for both of my 10/22's, thinking they would be an improvement over the factory bolt handles.

I purchased them from Rimfiresports.com and I received them in a timely manner.

After installing them I worked the bolt and noticed that it was becoming progressively stiffer with every cycle, an issue relating directly to the VQ bolt handles as I never experienced this problem with the factory Ruger parts.

I contacted VQ and told them of the problem. The CS lady asked me to send them back so that they could be "replaced" with new production units.

So I did. I sent them back the first week of MAY of this year and have dealing with "Scott Volquartsen" via email ever since.

July 19th: I sent an email to VQ asking about the progress of my return - no answer

July 27th: I send a follow up email asking the same - no answer

August 10th: I send a long winded email DEMANDING a response and a replacement product

August 16th: I receive a reply from "Scott Volquartsen" with an apology for "taking so long resolving my issue". I was offered an excuse that the lathe that the bolt handles are made on is broken and they are waiting for a replacement part that could take a month to come in. He than offered either A) a refund or B) to "rush" two of the newly manufactured bolt handles back to me when the machine is fixed. I opt to wait (because I do still want the bolt handles) and tell him so. He thanks me for my patience and says that he will "definitely keep me posted" and thanks me again for my patientce.

September 22nd: I send Scott an email letting him know that we are now 5 weeks beyond his self-imposed deadline and that I would, at a minimum, like an update on the status of my parts.

September 27th: I just sent him an email letting him know that I was no longer interested in dealing with his company and that I felt I had a duty to "inform every single living person who may be interested in your products how you have gone out of your way to entirely screw me of $90 worth of parts and 5 months of my time".

In conclusion: NEVER, EVER BUY ANYTHING MADE BY VOLQUARTSEN CUSTOM. EVER.

They make great stuff, but all the best to you in your quest to bring the company to its knees

Their "great stuff" was $90 worth of scrap metal, quite frankly.

I'm not mad at the fact that the product the produced and sold me was junk, any company can have a bad batch of whatever, it was how they dealt with the problem that pissed me off.

You can obviously take it for what it's worth, but I've afforded them AMPLE time to deal with my claim and they have not.

I'm $90 poorer and a couple of headaches worse off because I choose to buy their "great" products.

Customer service goes a long way and speaks volumes as a company.
He could have offered you a couple triggers or hammer kits pro bonno as compensation for your time and patience, but he chose instead to ignore your e-mails.
Try and get your money back at the VERY least and move on.....lesson learned.

Sucks to be you. I have dealt with Scott numerous times and he has always been great to me. Chances are there are two sides to this story and I would very much like to hear Scotts side.

If you are trying to bring the company by spreading bad words about him, good luck....

AHAHAHAHAHAAHAH! Laugh2 Could not even keep a straight face. :D

I don't get it.

I'm simply relaying a situation that I've been involved with for the past 5 months to those who could potentially learn from my mistakes.

You think it's funny that they stole $90 from me and strung me along with excuse after excuse for 5 months?

ETA: PM me your email address and I'll send you the complete transcript.

I've got all kinds of VQ guts in my 10/22, never a problem.
##### all you want, but I'm sure the positive experiences far outweigh the negative ones.
Did you put a couple drops of oil on the spring and guide??

Had an issue once with a VQ bolt . The firing pin was to long and hit my barrel causing feed problems . It left a small indent around the chamber , I never contacted VQ I just fixed it myself. Volquartsen isn't perfect but for the most part there stuff is very nice.

I have VQ guts in one 10/22 and a compete VQ trigger assy in the other and your story won't stop me from buying their parts, they are awesome.

I "invested" about 4 hours of my time AND two range trips trying to work the problem out myself.

The issue is with the "slack" (if you will) between the bolt handle and the rod itself.

In one of the first emails I had from VQ, they admitted that there was "a new design that would help solve that problem".

I know there is at least on other gentleman on this very forum who had the same issue because when I posted a thread about the problem, he PM'd me and said that a bolt handle he had had the exact same problem.

Great! Like I care.

Like I said previously, I'm simply relaying my side of the story of an ongoing situation. Take it for what you want. Maybe next time your purchase doesn't work out and then you can come back and reflect on what was said in this thread. :)

Sucks that your experience with them turned out this way.

Good thing I don't plan on buying their bolt-handle, just about everything else though.

;)

problems

I do believe that you stated you were offered a refund, did you not? Have you e-mailed Volquartsen, outlined your problem, stated the facts, and told them that you would take them up on their offer of a refund? Better still, why not simply telephone them?

That's a pretty strong statement that they STOLE your money, and I think I tend to agree with the Member who suggested that this is only one side of the story.

Personally, I have found that Volquartsen has been good to deal with, and have used many of their parts in both Ruger 10-22 and Remington 597 rifles.

Buffdog I have to agree, after hearing how obtuse Mr Spec. is behaving with some of our other members over a little forum chatter and $90 - Scott's side of this exchange seems eminently more relevant. b:
