The RCBS Chargemaster was $289 when I ordered it from Natchez

I started reloading with a beam scale (RCBS 5-0-5). While it does a great job and is plenty reliable, weighing powder with a beam scale is the SLOWEST part of the whole process. You will instantly realize a huge savings in time by using a Chargemaster, and your rifle ammo will still be plenty accurate.
For pistol, if you have a powder thrower and can use the scale to set it up, it should throw powder accurately enough for plinking ammo. You can also use the thrower to under-throw a charge into the pan, so you only have to trickle up a small amount to save time.
Having said that, I don't currently have a proper bench, or anywhere to set up the thrower for use, and if I had to weigh each charge on a beam scale, especially for high-volume use like pistol cartridges, I would probably go insane.
If you're a low-volume reloader, and only shoot very occassionaly, a beam scale will serve your purposes fine. Any more than that, and you will quickly outgrow it.
Oh, and x2 on ordering it from Natchezss. Best price going, probably in North America without living in the US.

I too started with a RCBS 505. Since getting a Chargemaster, you could not pay me enough to go back to a balance beam. Use your beer fund

Utah, have a look at a Pact BBK. I have been using one for around 10 years and have no trouble with it.

The RCBS 5-0-5 is what I upgraded to after using a CHEAP digital (they are total grabage, avoid at all cost)
My 5-0-5 is good, but you will need to tape a small pin to the frame to get an accurate reading. Also, if you have a laptop and remote webcam, you can get a very acurate reading without bending over every time.

was at the new cabela's in edmonton and picked the RCBS rockchucker kit, which comes with the charge master , simply for the fact of scale it came with ... heard good things about the Chargemaster... feel like a teen year old on christmas day!! Buy once!!
I think this is the one I'd like to buy.. either this or the Chargemaster if I can find a decent price.
Does anyone know which of our supporting dealers carries these?

If you want reasonable price best bet is one of those small MTM portable electric scales for about $45 and a trickler.....if you're handy with wood you can make a set-up where the trickler sits over the scale and can meter the powder in.....then you throw in a rough estimate of the charge and trickle in the last few grains.
