So i have been trying to get my hands on somw goex FFG since i arrived in quebec. This seems to be impossible, nowhere i have been sells and goex, I managed to get some 3f for my flintlock rifles. However i was going to use the 2f to reload my .450 adams ammo. I was told 15 grains of 2f works fine.

Alas a friend of mine was at lebaron and knew i was looking for 2f all they had was jim shockeys yukon gold. Regardless i was happy he got me some but i looked at it and it looks totally different than normal 2f. I have heard it doesnt preform the same either.

Do you guys think this would this work for what im planning on doing ?

Cheers, McLean

Yeah, Shockey's works fine for loaded ammo with primers. Where it isn't so good is in flintlocks, so I've read. It doesn't go off as easily as real black.

Supposedly it's non corrosive, although you should still clean your gun thoroughly after shooting it.

The traditionalists don't like it, but as for at my club...most everyone is using it or Pioneer.

It will be harder to ignite then real black and that is why i don't understand why folks just don't use real black powder. I was in contact with a canon maker in Quebec and he sold Go-ex, can't remember his name but maybe you could google that? have you checked the Go-ex site to see who is the go-ex dist. in Quebec?....Ben

I know it is a long way from Maniwaki, but Londero Sports in St-Jean sur Richelieu carries Goex. I do not know whether they will ship it though.

I am looking at a sample of Yukon Gold FFFG and Goex FFFG and the grains of Yukon Gold are very noticeably larger.
I would advise going to the powder makers (marked on the can?) web site and find out how to load with their powder. Loading with substitutes is not the same as for the REAL thing. It has been a while since I used Yukon Gold and can't remember if it is safe to have an airspace above the powder:eek: I don't have the original Yukon Gold can or I would provide a link.
You need to find other black powder shooters in your area so they can lead you to the good stuff.
I suspect the granulation would be too large to prime a flintlock but might work great in a large cartridge.

Ben I was out tossing away some of your excellent 50 cal plains bullets the other evening and ran out of priming powder. Of course the rifle was loaded when I discovered this so I quickly figured out that a properly set flint and a light sprinkle of 2f in the pan made her go boom 4 times out of 5.

BTW if anyone wants to turn their 50 cal 1-48 twist flinter/cap gun into a 50-120 sharpes
drop Ben a line. Accurate beyond belief and a pile of energy at the muzzle with no suffering on the eardrums or shoulder.

Yes I don't want to hijack the thread but they shot great in my .50 and now it's counterpart, the .54 plains shoots like a house on fire as well.....Ben

Jim gave me a pound of black powder with his face on it a couple years back to try. It was a white container not yellow. Can't remember the brand though. I asked about it the last time I saw him and he said it wasn't to his specifications. He must of found a new company to his liking.

I bought some yukon gold FFFg & FFg to try in my .44 revolver and .50 musket.
Thats all they had at lebarons.
I have been searching the internet but can't find much info on load data or what it is
eqivilent to.

Just use it like black powder...it's a BP substitute.

I've fired plenty of shots off with it and I'm still here!
