Sending my SKS out for custom engraving

Hey I like that one

I've seen the pic of a young square jawed man in a leather apron with a hammer in his hand and a beauti of a Russian woman in a dress and apron with a sycle in on hand and a shiv of wheat in the other and the red star above them like the sun. Famous Russian Propaganda art piece.

I really like that one actually, it would fit nicely on the dust cover! And i could just send the dust cover off instead of the whole rifle.....

For all who does not like that. It is same as getting tattoo on your body. It is a piece of art that some people might not like.
What ever is important in your life right now that is what you should tattoo on your rifle.

Cheers

Agreed - better to let somebody engrave a rifle than let some "dude" make permanent doodles on your body!

I see nothing wrong about putting some scroll scenes on an sks.

No different than spending hundreds of dollars on scopes, stocks and rail attachments.

Its all good if the rifle makes you happy and shoots well.:D

Uh Huh....but with that analogy we would be talking about a retarded red headed midget with "Tall dark and handsome" tattooed on his arm :D Dude, really, buy another crate of ammo or another cool and slightly different sks to add to your collection instead of trying to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.......NOW that's an analogy! :p

Engraving an sks is a lot like getting 20" chrome wheels and lambo doors for a lada. Just plain silly, my .02...

Very bad example.. :) :)
Lada on 20"s with lambo doors, can actually look very cool..

Steve you're on crack.
Then again after our conversation I'm kind of digging the idea.
Get out of my head man! :p:D

Yep, those ladas are pretty surprising. Lamborghini doors on a Lada, who knew? Oh wait, Dimitri knew i guess!

What do you guys think the engraving will cost? If there isn't a local smith that does that work could a regular metal engraver work or is it a special process for guns? Dust cover looks like the best place.

I want to adopt that black cat in that car pic, so I can pose him by my car! You can also dress them up as skunks on Halloween:)

You should go all the way and get the SKS done up like a presentation piece (just like something Saddam would've given to his generals). Mega silver, nickel, or gold plating with engraving everywhere. Would look good with a nice (gold toned wood) laminated stock.

Not sure what it'd do to the resale value (i.e. you probably won't get your $ back, unless gold prices go up even more after you plated it:)). But it can be a nice piece of artwork for sure.

As others have noted, they're a dime a dozen. Have fun with it. Personally, I would rather spend the money having it parkerized and Arma-coated over engraving, but to each their own. FWIW, price is not reflective of quality when it comes to the SKS. They are simply terribly undervalued due to high production numbers and the glut of inferior Chinese SKS's on the market. I suspect Russian pieces will go up in value once supply runs out.

sks and quality ??????

i have yet to see one with a straight barrel , never mind the soft steel they are made from and the shot gun like grouping they make .

they are a cheaply made gun , made to be turned quickly and in large quantities designed to be fired by people who know nothing more than the pointy end is the dangerous end .
