Went to the local gunshop today, and they had a nice CZ550 American on sale. I probably would of bought it, if it was a .308 or 30/06, but it was a .243. Its very well built, but my only complain about it was the detachable magazine. The base plate seemed to be made of plastic, however everything else on the gun was all metal. Don't know why they would skimp out on one part with plastic. I also found the magazine quite fussy about going in. Probably needs to be broken it, before it goes in more freely, but on the one I was handling, the only way to get it to go in properly was to press the mag release while inserting the magazine. I prefer the type of magazine that can be popped in easily. However, I do prefer the convenience of a detachable magazine over a internal magazine. If I lived out West were there is some dangerous game, then I would prefer the fixed internal magazine model, but I live in Ontario, were the most dangerous game is a Black Bear at the dump up North. A detachable magazine comes in really handy when your driving down a logging road in your truck, or riding your atv on a trail, and you see a moose walking, so you can quickly pop, lock, and drop.
