But have you seen a Tapco SKS mag? LOL... I've seen where you drill the hole, then all you need to do is poke a thingy on the bottom and slide the base plate off, then yank the plastic plug out. Takes about 2 seconds, literally....

Same idea...

Except a long screw would take even longer, maybe 20 seconds depending how long it is... LOL...

And you need a TOOL (A Robinson Driver).

Just playing devils advocate. I might call CFC tomorrow and see what they say... Probably no dice...

The problem for none Remington owners which can share the 870 and 1187 mag extensions, the semi auto only extension would be considered prohibited until limited permanently.

IIRC, any one piece of a magazine is not legally considered a magazine until it is fully assembled to function as such according to the law.

Don't know about that. They've been confiscating sole magazine bodies at the border claiming they are prohib. Springs and the rest of the parts are OK.

To limit the mag capacity, couldn't the follower be modified instead of the tube. That way you're only altering a cheap part.

This is how the Marstar M14 mags have their capacity limited.

Sure. There are several ways to neuter magazines depending of the style and parts contained. Riveting a stick to the follower is one of them.

When possible, I tend to pin mags without causing damage to the mag body.

I have a black metal follower like the one in this picture...

I'm thinking I could enlarge the hole, and use a nut and bolt combo, with red loctite or epoxy to keep it on there perminantly. This would be preferable to messing with the magtube, I think...

Edit:
I put together a solution that works perfect. Make a dummy 2.75 in shell. Fill with birdshot or buckshot to give the shell some structure (so it won't collapse).

The shot side (as opposed to the primer side) of the shell will fit directly into the muzzle side of the OEM black Mossberg follower. Drill out the primer cup of the 2.75" shell and get a long bolt and nut to run all the way thorough the dummy and the hole in the follower. Then use the nut and some loctite or epoxy to permanently fasten them together.

with this method, you can fit 5 3" shells in the tube, and you can insert about 80% of the last 3". You can comfortably get 6 2.75" shells in the tube. By comfortably I mean the spring wont bind up and the shell release springs will still work (which I find they won't if you're really squeezing that last shell in)....

I believe this would qualify as a permanent modification to the follower.

Used the stock spring as the S&J supplied one was a little too stiff for this purpose...

Magazines with factory limiters that are approved for import are one thing. Altering a magazine yourself is another.
