First AR15 - went retro Colt (lots of pictures) - UPDATED build complete - post 66

Anyone else have any "old school" ARs?

I have 3 of them. SP-1, AR-15A2 Carbine and AR-15A2 early model.

Yeah, I also have a 604-ish clone I built up.

I have to ask Paulinski, why go to all the trouble to source those original parts (including a smooth sided, chromed, Colt carrier!) and then install an ambidextrous selector?! A bit out of place, no?

Awsome muzzle brake!

Congratulations Nice rifle ! I enjoy the Nouveau accoutrement-ized AR's --But IT IS good seeing a thread on these vintage firearms , with "KISS" principle .

Yes - it needs a slabside lower. Where to get one aside buying complete SP1

Beautiful, I too am looking for the very same rifle. Maybe newer with a deflector as I am a lefty but almost like that. Congrats

This rifle does kick the brass back and to the right. I'm not a lefty but I can see it being an issue. I will have a video up of it tomorrow after the range.

I had an AR-15A2 that was from probably just after the top one was made, the major difference was it retained the old style A1 sights but had the A2 case deflector on the side of the upper receiver

Actually, a slabside, SP1-style lower would also be incorrect, it needs a type II or type III lower, depending on whether or not you want to place it early Vietnam or late Vietnam. These have traditionally been hard to find. Down south, Nodak Spud now makes excellent recreations but to my knowledge none have ever been exported.

But this does not affect my question, why use an ambidextrous selector? The receiver you are probably stuck with, and the difference isn't the end of the world, but that selector sticks out like a sore thumb, to me, anyway.
