Non restricted "black" 223?

Ok you completly lost me. lol

Ok, to try and clear things up...

The group posted by him was shot by me when I was doing ammo testing for my Swiss Arms here. He was making fun of the group, saying that his Mini-14 could out shoot it. Basically, that is the worst of the groups I posted. The picture subsequently posted by me was shot the same day, but using my handloads for the rifle. The group measures 0.975" (for 9 shots, #10 was a flier).

Personally, before there are any more comments from the cheap seats, I'd like to see the ammo test I did, but repeated with a Mini 14, using the same brands of ammo (as available), shooting 10 round groups, from the rest of the shooters choice, using any optics, then having the results posted for all to see.

I agree outshooting commercial loads with handloads is kinda skewed.

from what i have seen, my 600 dollar mini 14 shoots as good as a 3400 swiss arms, probably more reliable too....

What I see is different rifles shoot better or worse with different ammo.

What is the magic group size a rifle must shoot at 100m with cheap factory ammo to determine if it is good or not? In my opinion, if it puts 5 rounds into 2" it will hit whatever the shooter using it is capable of hitting. I have done that with mine at 200m (but that's all me baby:D)

To be fair I'm sure your Ruger shoots just fine and hits all its targets. I am also certain I could take your rifle and hit everything I hit with my SA.

I never did care who makes what tiny hole in paper at 100 yds from a bench (yawn). Lets see what THE SHOOTER can do with said rifle at say 300m, now that's a decent shooting distance.
If a guy can hit an object the size of a rod pail 5 shots in a row at 300 meters prone with whatever rifle he's most comfortable using he's good to go.

I have seen that AR180 guys 300m shooting posted here (mind you he has that nice acog:p) and it looked very good.

There is no "my rifle is better than your rifle" because it shot 1/4" tighter with blah blah ammo. Shooter skill and proficiency is what counts.

As for reliability, I'm not about to fill my rifle full of sand and kick it down a mountain, but to date she runs just fine.

As for my shooting (if anyone should give a s*it), go to MBR forum and search for "the 300m bucket test".

So buy what u like and get out there and keep shooting.

I would love an AR based 223 but refuse to buy a rifle that is a pretender. I want something I can actually use on soft targets and don't have to ask the queen if I can use it. Given that, does anyone have a recommendation on a non restricted semi auto 223? Thanks.
If you like humping something in the backwoods then weight does wiegh on 1's mind.

6.8lbs loaded like this
Although the heavier options out there like Swis, CZ, XCR & SCAR's. They can all take AR mags all be it some need add on parts. As for accuarcy out to 300 meter's they all have great effect on target. Although the Swis and then the SCAR hold the better accuracy. CZ is generaly the lowest and the XCR is about in line with the SCAR just that the SCAR can be enhanced easier. Although my trigger on the SU breaks at a nice 3.75 lbs with a few twists of the springs. But the CZ has the mod for the AR mags although as of yet the word is not out on how they prefrom. As for the Mini I never heard of it taking AR mags. But the target version I did own and it was a hoot to shoot and damm accurate. Except for the fact it felt like an anchor and it had a little issue with the bolt almost blowing up in my face. Although since the release of the Sparta stock from ProMag it has caught my eye again.
Hope this helps ya make up your mind on a Semi 223 to buy. Although if the AR wasn't restricted I doubt that we would even be seening threads like this.

The SU16 looks like a sniper rifle?
Laugh2
Ya right Laugh2
this is what a sniper semi-auto rig looks like!

My order of preference as well:

1)Swiss Arms, no compromise $
2)Bushmaster ACR, with a 18.5'' barrel
3)Tavor
4)FN 2000 with 18.5'' barrel
5)AR180B
6)Mini-14

The original question by the O.P was a comparison close to the AR.
How is a bullpup design even remotely close?????

For firsts they take AR mags, champ.

There is no comparison to the AR platform than the AR, even the Ar180 is totally unique.

Champ.lol Have not heard that in a while. I did not mean to be snitty.:)
But I think the ACR and XCR lowers would be the closest.

Guys is there anything non res in a black semi rifle in a reasonable price range say under 1000 i want something in 223 i can use for varmint hunting as range plinking, with good accuracy and ability to mount a scope to it.

Right, so you pull the worst group shot when testing about a dozen different kinds of ammo.

Here's what the Swiss is capable of with decent ammo (handloads).

Federal premium does very well too, as does Remington Premier.

So, let's see your groups... Don't be shy... post them.
Lol off topic a bit but that little flyer down and to the left of that nice group reminds me of that scene is super troopers: "how you shooting today?"
"check it out"
"what about that one there?" (points to one flyer)
"that little guy right there? ..you don't need to worry about that one"
Haha
