Boyd M1A Stock Sale

This is a great price. You can use all your metalwork from your USGI walnut/cherry/birch or your Norc Chu/plastic stock and will be good to go. Well maybe a bit of woodworking/fitting might be needed. For $ 85 plus shipping and taxes, that's a wonderful price. :D

If you are pondering a walnut stock, here is your chance. And mailing to Canada is straightforward.

Cheers,
Barney

Are these FINISHED walnuts appear the same ... as in just dark wood or would you find difference in appearances? What wood stocks have/come with alot of tiger stripping in the wood? That is a great price ... these are obviously not NM stocks?

I got mine in the mail a few days ago. I got the one with the bedding slits cut into it. Now I am starting the research on how to properly bed the m-305 into the stock. I don't see any reason why I coulden't use the stock as is until I get the bedding done.?

I am happy with the stock it looks good, I'll post an update when I get all the hardware from my plasticrap Norinco stock onto it.

Clamp your trigger group and barreled action to see what kind of tension you obtain. Then make a decision from there. Glass bedding is not rocket science. In my clinics I teach you to bed things in stages, shorter and smoother learning curve.

Hope this helps,
Barney

Sorry it doesn't really. I don't understand. Do you mean clamp them to the stock and see how tight they fit.

Pretty tight means no bedding.
Loose means bed it before I shoot it

?????

As the trigger guard is closed, it clamps the barrelled action into the stock. Ideally the guard will pull up tight just before it latches, and will require an extra push to latch it in place. If it does not do this, bedding the rifle can achive this condition. Bedding will also stabilize the fit of the metal parts into the stock, and help maintain a uniform fit.

There... that saves me a pile of typing. Go and re-assemble your barreled receiver and trigger group. Let us know how it fits!

cheers,
Barney

Thanks I understand now what you and Hungry were saying. Hopefully I will have some time to play with it this weekend.

As far as chunky or slim profile. The stock seems to be cut in the same proportions as my older chinese wood stock and the new plastic one. Pretty chunky. In my limited experience I have never seen a slimmer profile though.

Bedding Slots?

Thanks for the post. I just ordered the one with the bedding slots this afternoon. An hour later got an email that it was shipped. $138 with shipping.

I am considering getting a walnut stock for the looks, but would like to have the option of bedding the stock later. Will the stock with bedding slots work without bedding?
Geoff

Hey Barney or anyone, I am looking at the springfield usgi stocks that wolverine carries and now the boyds stock (thanks to this thread) but bottom line which stock would achieve better accuracy? Does the boyds stock warp from environmental conditions (moisture). Also how much weight difference between the two?
Just thought some people would enjoy this pic.
