Hello Guys and Gals,
I need Advise on the M&P Pro Trigger. Just this weekend I shot the Canadian IPSC Nationals and got Bump from Production to Open because I failed the trigger pull test. And it seems everyone that had the M&P Pro had the same problem?

Has anyone had this problem? or do they have a fix to add a bit of weight to the trigger pull?

Can't help you with anything IPSC related, but if you drop in a standard M&P sear, the pull will be akin to a standard M&P, which would surely make weight.

Kevin, ask Antoine, he even call S&W for that issue. As far as I know, M&P sear does not fit in the Pro and S&W does not plan on doing something to resolve it

From experimentation, I can tell you that a M&P sear will function in a Pro, producing a pull very much like a standard M&P.

I wonder if you can put the S&W sear made for Massachusetts in, but that would bring you up to 10 lbs. Maybe you can get somewhere in between 5 and 10 by mixing S&W factory parts.

I don't think the Americans have the 5 lb trigger rule under USPSA like we do under IPSC so they may not care that it is lighter.

Also try e-mailing Randy Lee at Apex Tactical randy@apextactical.com as I think he knows as much or more about M&P triggers than anybody else.

Maybe the M&P L version with its regular trigger would work better.

The trigger pull on the PRO is 4.5lb
from factory. Don't make any changes,
the rules will change regarding the
trigger in October, so you will be
good for Production as it is...

Hey

I have the same gun and got bumped to open in a level 3 match as well
For myself, i find that adding trigger weight to it is too troublesome so i decided to tune it down and shoot standard minor, and i enjoyed it a lot
Regarding to adding trigger weight, there are a few things to try

1. Lighter recoil spring
2. heavier striker spring
3. (difficult to do) changing sear engagement angle

p.s. i have tried replacing a regular M&P sear but the trigger weight does not really increase...... just roughen the pull if it does anything

The rule proposal to be brought up at this years World Shoot general meeting is for Production triggers a D/A of 2Kg (4.4 lb) and S/A of 1Kg (2.2lb) and if adopted would be in the new rulebook of January/2012......there's a thread discussing it on the IPSC Global Village website under the Proposed Rule Changes (Production)..........your stock from the factory Pro should be able to meet these new trigger pull weights

The proposed 4.4lb DA, 2.2lb SA trigger pull for Production division DID NOT get approved...therefore we will still be using the first pull 5 lb for the 2012 rulebook

I'm no gunsmith...but you're going to have to explain to me the correlation between recoil spring and trigger pull

Also...changing the angle of the sear engagement is beyond minor detailing (get caught and you're shooting Open)

2. heavier striker spring
3. (difficult to do) changing sear engagement angle

Sorry for veering off topic but to answer your question apparently ALL of the Rules Committee rules proposals passed EXCEPT for the Production Division trigger pull one........which I believe would mean that the new definition of sweeping INCLUDES if done during drawing or holstering...also NO sight picture OR dry firing allowed during a course of fire (except for aiming at the ground to verify your red dot is on).....someone PLEASE correct me if I am wrong

Ok, since you asked in Capital letters... ;)

What about the new definition for sweeping? Ya or na??
Rule 10.5.5 was not modified from it's current wording in the final rules proposal presented for vote at the general assembly and therefore - no change; an exemption for sweeping remains while holstering and drawing. We do win sometimes. :D

Back on topic;
As for the change in trigger pull motion, it became focused on the single action portion of the proposal. Germany argued that light triggers are too dangerous for the average shooter to have and therefore the proposal should be approved. USA rightly argued that we've been using light single action trigger pulls for decades without problems and apparently the majority of regions agreed. The motion died - 29 against, 25 in favor.
