I've been debating which .223 cal rifle I'll purchase to celebrate the long gun registry death and I've noticed the Bennelli offerings don't seem to be popular despite the relatively low cost, use of ar mags and seemingly good reviews. Is there something I'm missing?

I handled one the other day (mind you it was the restricted 14" barreled version). It was very nice.

From an ergo point of view though, the mag release is absolutely horrible. If the 14" was non-restricted, I would buy one, however, I would probably buy any black rifle if it had a short barrel and was non-restricted.

Heavy too but LAR-15 mags a plus. I'd consider one if I decide to get a non-res in .223 that uses the same mags as my M4 but I'd have to check out this mag release complaint first.

It's heavy, the mag release sucks, it's a little difficult to mount optics with the short rail and for those who like to load a lot of crap on their rifles the only way is an expensive Benelli mount.

BUT, it's non-restricted, not super expensive, accepts AR magazines including the 10 round LARs, accurate and has a clean piston action.

Did I mention that it's non-restricted?????

I like mine.

It's different. Hands down.

But I find the curves on it and the smoothness of the rifle very pleasing when handling it.

The mag-release was a pain at first, but I have been able to modify my use of it and now drop mags freely without issue and with little time lost.

Groupings are wicked out of the box as is longer distance shooting.

You have to handle one before you decide to buy. I had been wondering the same thing, but once I got my hands on one I realized that the controls are in the wrong places. It also had a very plasticy feel to it, which I would be expecting on a Kel-tec .223. I'm thinking if you wait long enough, they will release a revised/improved version that will be more user friendly.

You have to shoot one to understand why a bunch of us do appreciate a lot, this is one of the most trouble free and accurate NON-RESTRICTED rifle on the market... Cheers. JP.

And for $301 - with loctite! ;) I'm not a fan of the collapsible stock on the MR1, but for a non-restricted .223 'plinker' it's a pretty good buy. For the price of an XCR you could have an MR1 with a really nice optic.

???

All of the MR1's I've seen are in that $1800 - $1900 range.

All of the new XCR's I've seen are in the $2200 range.

= $300 difference.
