Nothing spectacular. It has been 11 years since I was hunting last (long story...). Shot a whitetail doe for meat. Though I had it at the range this year I am happy my old Savage was bang on where I wanted it to shoot. A 220 yard shot and I am as pleased that I took her quick and clean as having meat in the freezer.

I had been hunting for elk for the first time on this trip, but no luck. We saw lots of deer and I learned alot about hunting in two days. I hiked some of the most beautiful countryside that Alberta has to offer. As well I met some of the friendliest, most hospitable, and interesting people as ever. I hunted with a guy from my work that I hope will be a long term hunting buddy. At the end of it all, it was a truly great trip. My wife asked me what the best part of the trip was and I told her "just going hunting."

I thought I'd get one of these but I didn't feel like I had a real trophy to capture. At the time, I was somewhat amazed that I shot it so well from that distance (though I know that many shoot game from much further). I found pulling the trigger on that doe was somewhat different than paper and I realized as I put my finger on the trigger that I wanted that bullet to place perfectly. Though I questioned my ability for a second, I was calm and waited until it took a step broadside. I shot it just behind the point in the shoulder, hitting the heart and both lungs. She made it far enough to drop behind a small thicket out of sight, about ten feet. I don't think I'll forget the feeling or memory of that day.

The best I can do for pics is when I'm eating the sausage I'm having it made into. I'll be picking it up on Sunday. Other than that, I still have an elk tag to fill and I promise to post pics if I fill it.

Congrats on the deer, but not tryin to bust your balls or anything, .....but where were you hunting and with what? I didn't think the rifle season opened until the 1st of november in alberta.

Hey don't sweat it. I have been blessed to have a fair amount of success and choose not to post pics - for me the hunt and meat/trophy/company is sort of a personal thing. Anyone ever wants to come to my house for a coffee they are welcome to see horns or try some jerky...

Glad you had a good time and thanks for sharing the story.
