Nanuq(polar bear) hunt ...

HOLY FN HELL BATMAN ... I just came from our local HTO(hunters/Trappers Org) office and they're taking names now and doing a draw tomorrow and will let us know what # we are and how many days we get to go find a bear NOW ... Faaack they're not waiting until Dec when the ice is formed ... crazy! Cross your fingers for me ... as I could be hunting polar bear as soon as 2 days from now ... DOH :D

Glad this thread was ressurected :D Just read about your previous hunt. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you get a bear for yourself this year!

Oh, and to answer your quesiton in the start of the thread ...

Yes, I would love to participate in a polar bear hunt. I'd like to experience the hunt itself, but I think I'd be quite happy to let someone else shoot it - ie: someone from the area - Polar Bears are not part of my own heritage, and I think it's important to keep traditions like this alive within the community.
 
Just got a text from a buddy who's doing the draws outta a hat ... over 60 people pulled and listed so far ... approx 100 applicants ... looks like I'll never get a bear this year with those #'s ... I'll be in the last 40 or so ... :( :( :(

Ya, and don't fergit ur camera............
Maybe bring the gummbootee.:p
Toss it at the bear for a distraction so you can take before
and after shot pictures.
Don't go so far as have the bear chase you around the truck like
on intraweb..........:ar15:

It's been a dream hunt for me. I know it will never happen, I can't afford it, and the regs won't let it happen. But I can dream.
 
Unfortunately gents I do not believe I'll even have a chance as there was over 160 applicants and only 7 tags. The way the local HTO has done it is that the first 5 people on the list get 48 hrs ... if they don't catch one they give in their tag and the next 5 go ... I'm 135 or something ... ain't going to happen ... aah well there's always next year ... :D Thank you all for the good luck wishes,

The experience would be awsome!

But I can honestly say that I could never ever justify spending that kind of money to do it! I am far too practical with my money............................................................LMAO!
I simply could never afford it!
I can enjoy so many other hunts for the price of one Polar Bear hunt.
BUT! What an experience!

Yes sir I just found out we're getting approx 40 Umingmak(muskox) tags to apply for ... hopefully I'll get one of those. As for polar bear, there's always next year ... ;) :D So far nobody has come back with a bear ... the first group of 5 have until midnite and then their tags go to the next 5 folks who'll have 48 hrs and so on ... :)
