Having owned an HK45 when they first hit the shelves a few years ago, I will agree that they are great guns - if you can find one and don't mind paying $1500+ for a used polymer pistol and around $90 apiece for extra magazines... Or you can get an awesome S&W M&P45 for well under $800 and pay about $50 apiece for extra mags and be just as happy.
The M&P45 is an awesome gun and even more awesome when you consider that it is about half the price of the HK45. Plus the M&P will be MUCH easier to get spare parts for should you ever need them.

USP45, hands down...lowest amount of recoil that I've ever felt in a full size 45ACP handgun.

Just got my new HK45 in the mail the other day, waiting to take it to the range. It feels pretty good in my hands, and I have tiny girl hands. Can't comment on how it shoots yet, hoping to get out to the range Saturday and Sunday to try and break it in.
As far as the mag release, I actually dig it. I was wary of it, thinking I wouldn't like it, but I find it just as easy to use my fingers to release the mag as using my thumb. Someone's who's had years of practice speed reloading for IPSC might need to retrain their muscle memory, but it works for me.
Because there are no more rungs on the ladder after that.
