Sometimes you buy a rifle that his just to much of teeth ratler, in my case i bought a NEF rifle 500 S&W, i went tru 2 scopes and finally settle on a Busnell red dot. after 50 shots it is still holding, i did reload 400 gr Sierra bullet behind 40 gr of H-110... wow it does kik so hard i barely shoot it now but when i do my range co-shooter stop shooting ank look, it is barely a 3.5 inchs grouping gun but what a kick muzzle jumper show, to much is just to much... Cheers. JP.

I know what you mean. I had a 750 carbine in .35 whelen and it kicked like crazy. It's odd though because I can shoot my pump no problem in the same caliber. Some guns just kick more for some reason.

a 500 s&w seriously kicks too much?

You better stay away from the big-boy rifle cartridges then.

375 Ultra Mag will put the 500s&w to shame.

Next think you know people will be complaining that the 45-70 kicks too much.

My buddy bought a 375 ultra mag for a "range gun" WRONG. He bought 40 rounds and in 15 min ,they were gone.:( His neck was sore, he had a headache and his shoulder was killing him. This gun was not desighned for constant fire. He soon relized that he bought the wrong rifle for his needs. Its a fantastic hunting gun...its not meant to be treated like an SKS lol.
He sold it the same day and bought a rifle that suits his needs.

That's one dumb buddy.

I've posted this before - a long time ago, but I think it qualifies for this thread:

.458 Lott. Too bad it has a sissy slip on recoil pad. Although I guess the stock metal plate might be uncomfortable.

Yea, young guy, first rifle, got talked into it by his "friends" Plus he got hosed bad on the price. He paid $180.00 more for it, than he could of bought it in saskatchewan for. I feel bad for him...he is easily mislead.,and seems to believe anyone that "sounds" like they know what they are talking about.

The Nef cheap configuration is not helping here, my brother have a Marlin guide gun in 45-70 ( it is ported do ) and it doesnt beat my shoulder as much as the 500 S&W, i have no fun shooting that rifle... JP.

I wont sell it that for sure, i keep all of my rifles but the idea of having it ported is good, tomorrow i will call one of my friend gunsmith and talk to him about the possibility... Cheers. JP.

I know for the hand gun caliber, i will try to take a picture of the round compare to some other it is humongous... JP.

Probably in the wrong forum, but this girl actually doesnt kick much at all :D... (for what it is); shes still a work in progress too mind you, she needs a new coating job, and even without her muzzle brake shes still a puppy to shoot, exspecially with the 500gr Triple Bonded Bear Claw Federal rounds....

My project rifle from school, and I love it! :D

I have the same gun, and it too sports a Red Dot, because it messed up the (cheap) scope that was first on it.

It weighs about 7 pounds. Try a 700 gr cast at 1550 fps like I did 10 times (and never again). It kicks far worse than my Mauser-based 458 Win Mag firing a 350 gr bullet at 2600 fps.

As for the 375 RUM, the 700 gr at 1550 fps out of the NEF Handi-Rifle has more recoil than an 9 pound gun firing a 300 gr bullet at 2800 fps, and its poor stock design for heavy recoil makes it feel even worse.

Nice rifle, but the factory 500 TBBCs aren't loaded to anywhere near the .458's potential. I chronographed a few and got an average of 1970 fps from my 21" M-70. Load up some 500 gr Hornady DGXs ahead of 74.5 grs of H-335 and you'll see what I mean, these chronograph at 2100 even. Thus far the top performer has to be Ben's 480 gr WFNs ahead of 77 grs and seated out to crimp on the second grease groove. These produced an average of 2200 fps and gave me 1.25 MOA at 150 yards from a badly fouled bore. Not bad for a bullet that in hand is about a third of the counter price of it's jacketed counterpart.
