Got my Norc. m14 back from dlask this week with their new adjustable gas lock front sight and an A6 muzzle brake. The gas lock is great and locks up rock solid. You crank it on to the desired tension and then lock it in place with two tiny set screws. Had some trouble with the front sight and set screws shooting loose, so will try to sight it in again now that I have applied some Loctite.

The A6 muzzle brake is huge! Bigger then I was expecting, but does work to tame recoil and muzzle jump. Side blast is significant and you won't make any friends beside you at the range.

Turn around time was much longer then expected because dlask was turning out a batch of their redesigned gas locks. Took at least 6 weeks, but not a big deal in the end. My only complaint is that they did a crude job of boring out the muzzle brake to .30 cal, and left the steel bare. It will need to come off and get cleaned up. Indexing seems a hair off as well.

All in all, I'm quite happy with the work and the parts and hope that dlask keeps making new $h.t for us to try out. A socom gas plug would be nice. Hint hint

Problem shooting: I am trying out the new Norinco 7.62 ammo for the first time and had approx. 1/15 failure rate with low pressure not cycling the bolt enough to chamber a new round. So, is it the ammo or the fact that I got the gun chopped and screwed up the gas pressure? I'm running a 7.62 Firearms gas system with a Sadlak TIN piston. The stock gun ran perfectly.

You could run a socom plug in that gas system, I guess they're hard to find though, eh? What about this:

Beauty of a rifle, by the way! I like that brake, might just have to go that way when I build a shorty...

It's not the ammo. I put about 50 rounds of the Norinco through my factory shorty yesterday with zero issues.

Your suggestion might work, but the description implies that it vents gas pressure to reduce the wear and tear on the gun. I need more gas pressure.

The socom plug increases the volume of gas that builds the pressure to push the piston.

On many shorties, close attention to gas port alignment is also imperative.

I kinda got the impression that adjustable one could be adjusted either to allow more gas in or to vent gas out. Might be wrong though. Maybe you can order a Socom plug direct from SAI?

I got to see your rifle and can say for a fact that your piston seems to be the calpurit. Try your 7.62 or your stock nork. ;)

If its any help, I also experienced several failure to feeds during my first outing with my new, unmodified shorty. Bolt was closed but had not chambered a round. I have only put approximately 50 rounds through her so far so will see if it clears up on its own. No problems with the last 20 or so.

Satain, what makes you think it's the piston? More info please.

Hi twoguntim

I had same work done by Dlask (xb4 installed) and have had no problems with mine, i use my own reloads though, 60 rounds no cycling issues.

I have stock gas system, maybe clean out the gas system and try again.

I should add that I was using the Norinco ammo from the combo deal. Haven't tried any other ammo yet.

All parts in question are new. I replaced the Norc. gas cylinder because it was bored out off center and looked bad, although it worked fine. Funny how you replace cheap parts with quality parts and then have trouble. Having never used Norinco ammo before, I was leaning towards low pressure ammo, but now I'm not so sure.

Tested Norc. piston. It will not pass through the new gas cylinder, so I need to stick with the Sadlak. Gas ports are lined up. I can pass a small allen key through the empty cylinder and into the barrel.

If the gun doesn't break in soon, perhaps I'll just bore out the gas plug a bit.

Norc pistons and gas cylinders are not usgi spec, they are slightly larger. As a result usgi spec'ed pistons can operate in a Norc cylinder although not without potential short stroke problems as it doesn't create the same vacuum. The opposite won't work for obvious reasons. Tweaking the plug might add gas pressure. Good luck man hopefully it sorts itself out soon.

Just a second. I was using the Norc 7.62 today and had some problems with it. Just about every mag had a problem. It would eject the spent case but not pick up the next round properly and it would jam it halfway into the chamber. Fired about 40 rounds with one stoppage about every mag, maybe every other mag. Loaded 2 mags with MFS and they shot perfectly.

I have an older Norc factory long barrel (muzzle brake, guide and spring are all I've done) that I've fired maybe 1000 rounds through with maybe 1 or 2 jams in that whole time using mostly MFS, some Privi and a little Federal.
Today for the first time I use the Norc ammo and have all kinds of trouble.

I think the OP should try some different ammo before blaming the rifle.

Is the Sadlak piston the National match one with the groove running lengthwise down the piston? If so they specifically say that it is for hot loads with heavy bullets and may cause functioning problems with normal loads. Check it and see.

I was kinda thinking that too, but I wasn't really sure how much a difference it would make
