Remington vs. Weatherby vs Savage

The original Vanguard is still superior to the Savage for nearly all the same reasons.

The trigger was once an issue but was addressed over a year ago. They're pretty good even in the S1 now.

The 111 without accu-trigger does have a pretty crappy trigger though...

Also, you're wrong about the packages. They existed LONG before the S2 even came out so obviously they're not there to clear old stock...

Actually they are there to clear old stock... they have only existed for about a year or so... and are only available at the two big box stores.... the ones that order these rifles by the truckload.... they are still buying out Rem's stock of teh DM sps without the x-mark.... just look at their ads and you can see that the x-mark is not advertised only for the package models...

I have never tried a savage that didn't have the accu-trigger so can't comment on that.... and I like the stock Weatherby trigger on the s1.... I also REALLY like the deluxe version of the vanguard with the wood stock... but again, none of these are the rifles the OP is asking questions about....

Long and short id that a 500 dollar rifle with an 80 dollar scope on it is an 80 dollar rifle... I would buy whichever of the three rifles listed you liked the most and I would put a decent piece of glass on it... Like a Nikon Buckmaster or Redfield revolution....
 
I am both a Vanguard AND Savage fan. I am going to buy a Vanguard (S2) in something or other.

I like the Savage because the bolt is butt ugly, but in the long action (30-06) I can action the bolt quickly without moving my head off the stock. I stay in sight with the scope and the bolt does not smack my glasses or cheek.

The Savage is a 22" barrel and the S@ is a 24" barrel.

Both shoot well, although the new S2 is going to be a guaranteed sub-moa, for whatever that is worth.

Do what feels right for you.

I don't know about that statement, but I'll put my stock Savage up against a stock Remington 700 any day. Savage's are known for their accuracy, & mine shoots sub-moa every time. Too the OP, I second the other posters; try them all & choose the one that fits you best.

I'm sorry but you're mistaken. I've been looking at the Vanguard package for about 2-3 years. P&D certainly had them.
 
I have a rem 700 bdl in 270 win. Bolt glides super smooth when it is racked, magazine has lots of length.
My vanguard is a 338 win mag. The action seems like it would handle gas leaks better with the shroud and placement of the three bolt vents. The stock design does seem to help with the recoil.
My savage is a 223 rem. The action is different (floating bolt head, bolt release/cocking indicator, barrel nut) but it is the most accurate rifle I own and not by a small amount.
That probably doesn't help at all. :S
 
My last three rifle purchases have been savage and I'm happy with each one...very accurate and reliable...the non-accutrigger can be reworked or for that matter just adjusted to make it a lot better or better yet for around a hundred buck you can install a Timney fully adjustable trigger or just buy the accutrigger model...many after market products are available to upgrade when so desired...also the gun doesn't have to go to a machinist to change a barrel.
All three Weatherby, Remington and Savage are good rifles...but I'd say go with the savage.
