Sniper Challenge

I'm not saying that it can't be done but 50's and even the 338 are pretty hard on steel. Perhaps different classes for those wanting to crawl through mud and those not. To make this work you need to have more than one team going at it at one time, then rotate to the next station and carry on. Some of the comps ive been two had as many as 6 stages running at a time. Generally you were with a group of guys and one team goes at a time, then the next team till all teams in your cadre have finished. Then you move to the next stage.

Lot's of people putting out great ideas and advice. I can see when we all get together to plan the logistics of this event it's going to be a long get together heavy in discussion, bring lots of beer!!

The offering of targets is outstanding and will save a load of work on the planning end. Thanks to all.

Jimbo, time to make another trip down here so we can head out and layout the fireing positions and lanes, also do a little coyote hunting at the same time. Glock think you southern boys need to make a trip up as well. :)

Hend, thanks for the Helicopter advice.

If you want to walk the property better plan on being up here a week!!:p

Jim I missed your calls as well, was out hunting. I will touch base with you tonight. I will be working down in Edmonton this week back to the Mac on Friday.

Sounds like alot of fun but how in the world could you insure everyones safety Just the screening alone for competitors would take years % for an incident are way to high
Good Luck to you guys have fun

Everyones safety is the #1 concern and all safety issues are being planned and controlled with a high attention to detail. If it can't be done safely it won't be done period.

The land we are looking at using is as controlled for access as a military range. It has controlled and locked gates so general public can not enter the area without blatently trespassing. The range area encompasses 144 sq miles of fenced/ cross fenced and natural obstructions that would make entering the shooting areas extreamly difficult. We will also have range control and patrol. Trust me when I Say it will be next to impossible for anyone to enter undetected.

This years shoot will be a trial event to work out bugs with experienced people and shooters. This group will have a great deal of input into the event structure and shooting senario's for future events which will be more open to the public and new shooters once safety can be gauranteed.

Alot of us on here know each other well and do clown around a fair bit with each other joking about event content....The mantracker stuff is a joke as well as a few other comments. This event is taken seriously and be assured safety is serious and will be assured.

As for Glock's comment...yep I'm nuts, and proud of it:D

Seriously:p You want us to take you seriously? A guy who drives his quad wearing a pink dress????:slap:
To those not in the inner loop, there is a serious inside joke here.

You still using that picture as a desk top background? Being a Marine you must have seen alot of men in dresses.:slap::D

I will bring it to the shoot, maybe I can pass it on to another deserving individual as a bad shot reward. We can give it as the "Girl Ghillie" award for the lowest scoring team on day one and must be worn for the remainder of the shoot.

I will be sure to have your's and Glock's name embroidered on them and on time for the shoot.:p

No Max absolutely not, the whole intent of this shoot is to open it up and make it enjoyable to anyone who has an interest and at all skill levels.

Jim had a great idea on a mentoring system where experienced shooters would be paired with new shooters to help maintain safety for all and new shooters are not running into it blind.

This is a shooting competition but I think most of us want to concentrate on everyone walking away saying what a hoot can't Waite for next year!

To pull of a shoot to that level will require experienced shooters to get together and work out the bugs and put together an event that can be done safely and an event structure that can be managed efficiently making the most of each day.

At the end of the shoot everyone should feel a part of the old boys club, new or old.

This shoot is Jimbo's Idea and its going to take a lot of dedicated hands to pull it off to the level I think we are all envisioning. So everyones input and ideas are greatly appreciated.

I think the fact that the organizers all know each other well and have great history together will go a long ways to helping this whole idea come together. I, personally, am not nearly as concerned about competing as I am wanting to put on a killer event. I want guys to be challenged as well as rewarded but also learn more then just their scores and praise at the end of it.
If we're able to put this event on the way many of us would like it to go, there will be surprises and choices to be made by the shooting teams and scores to go along with it. As we're able to draw from different professional backgrounds, this event will prove to be much more then just hitting targets and finishing the course.

negative side of this is the huge safety factor and how you CYA for insurance purposes.

IMHO an ideal helicopter stage, import some pigs ???
