How big is the black rifle crowd in Canada?

I'm kind of surprised to be seeing as the NEA-15 selling as well as it is, I guess I didn't know that the black rifle concept was that big in Canada. Are you allowed to use your black rifles for hunting? How many ar-15 type rifle owners do you think there are in Canada?

AR-15's are restricted in Canada which means it can only be shot at an approved range. This limitation does hurt sales somewhat but other types of black rifles are non restricted ( AR-180B, Rob Arms XCR some Swiss Arms ect) and can be used for hunting.

These non restricted black rifles seem to be selling quite well right now but still when compared to the US market ours is still small. With our non restricted registry on the way out now we are hoping that this is the start of more reasonable firearms legislation to come such as deregulation of the AR-15 as a restricted firearm to non restricted.

Back in 2006 (I think up until about last year) you used to be able to search the national gun resgistry database from the Ottawa Citizen website (search doesn't appear to work anymore). That would've been a good starting spot to estimate how many AR15 owners are in Canada. That said, I think you'd have to take the total number of AR15s and probably divide by 3 (or more). Most black rifle owners seem hard pressed to suppress the urge to buy more than one.

Also, here's hoping that the conservative government does de-restrict the AR15. One thing I've noticed about our current government is that ever since the CPC came into power they've predominantly been focused on criminal code type legislation (super jails, gun registry, right to self-defense, citzen arrests, etc.). THe only thing other than the criminal code type stuff that's been major news is dismantling the wheat board.

I think black rifles are becoming increasingly popular here in Canada. I hunt with all of mine, except my AR of course. Send me a private message.
 
I take my CZ858 out of the safe every day when I get home from work, no other gun gets that much love. It goes with me hunting or to the range at least 75% of the time, it's totally a never sell rifle. I may have to stop using it once it's shot out, but I still will probably never sell it.
 
I make a point of hunting with my non restricted black rifles as much as possible just to prove a point. Hopefully in years to come more people will take up the sport utilizing black and red rifles and with any luck, we will continue to see improvements in the legislation surrounding them and the use of them.

me too!! love my 858 and hunt with it too! :eek:) do you shoot milsurp through it? i do,but clean it thoroughly,,sometimes.. :eek:)
 
imho the CZ858 is one of the best hunting platforms around. All you really need is a 5 round mag and you're good to go.

It's like using a lever gun, with a detach mag, semi-auto, and pistol grip. Don't forget it has better sights, it's the same weight, just as reliable, and about the same accuracy.

Dropped a cariboo with an 858 I had - great rifle.

Ten round mags have made it doable for me to get into AR's.

cariboo??nice! but dont you hunt cariboo like from really far away? how far was youre shot? and what kinda scope you got/ :)
and sorry to A###EL,for hijacking youre thread.. i own a norinco qcb,,just cause it was soo cheap and so i can say i have at least 1 AR in my collection(test fired only btw),, i personally would prefer an AK or a CZ858 over an AR anyday.
 
I'd have to think its huge, especially with all the new firearms being brought in. NEA15, KRISS Super V, etc.
On the subject of the AR15, I'm defintely getting an AR soon, with about 10 LAR15 mags, and a share or two in ammunition sales, lol.
