German Gewhr 98 and the k98A 8MM Mauser....reason good caliber ... accurate ...and strong action for trench war.

Fedorov Automat "first Assault rifle used in combat :D"

It can be any rifle that was either issued to troops or under development or in existence during the conflict: 1914 to 1919!

I'm having to choose between a 1903, SMLE or 1917 for my WWI purchase for now! My interests lie in SCW, WWII and Vietnam, so I'm allowing myself just one to represent the Great War plus it has to be VERY excellent to shoot, high in the fun ranking, aesthetically pleasing to the eyes, and not going to cost me an arm and a leg just because its a sooooo rare that only the Kaiser used it once!

Chauchat CSMG...?

Actually, it would have the be either a Kar98az or a Lebel Mle1886-M93. Despite what many think, the PRIMARY combattants for most of WW1 were Germany and France if you go by troop numbers, casualties, etc.
