Won't it become restricted as soon as you pop the pistol grip on and it becomes under 24"? (or 26"? I forget)
Or are you just going to pop the pistol grip on, blast away and then switch back?

Yes - you will instantly be in possession of an unregistered restricted firearm. Minimum mandatory jail term will apply if your are caught.
It is possible that the crown could say simple possession of the grip constitutes "intent" to produce an unregistered restricted firearm.
Much in the same way that they have determined that possession of magazine bodies without a rivet in place constitutes "intent" to construct prohibited magazines.
It's possible for sure. Even having a hacksaw to close to your shotgun barrel could be intent to construct a prohib barrel and if you have a fully charged cordless drill, with a loaded drill bit, too close to your riveted mags....
Funny, but the 12.5" Grizzly with ghost sites that I got over a year ago came with a pistol grip in the box. So you might still get one for your other 870 or the day when the law changes in our favour.
I concur with the other posts about not putting it onto the Grizzly though.
It is VERY hard to prove intent in a court of law.
By that logic, you could be accused of intent to build pipebombs for possessing matches and a functionnal sink.
The crown's claim could easily be fought by simply stating that you would've registered the firearm as restricted once the pistol grip installed.
So such a charge wouldn't fly. It would at best be a bogus charge so that the prosecutor could try negociating. But anyone with the slightest knowledge of how law works would laugh at that.
The magazine pinning issue has already been accepted in court after the RCMP charged someone with the importation of unpinned magazine parts. They said that the components constituted intent to produce a prohibited device.
To this day anyone will tell you that ordering unpinned magazine bodies or "magazine shells" as the RCMP refers to them as - for personal use is a really bad idea.
The pistol grip issue has yet to be tested in court. With the number of these in circulation it is only a matter of time until the crown makes a charge based upon the success they had with the magazine parts case. Since it has worked once before they will be eager to establish a precedent for this as well.
This would work exactly the same way as the magazine issue.
When I asked firearms lawyer Ed Burlew what people should do with the pistol grip he said - to be on the safe side I highly recommend the firearm should be registered as restricted upon purchase.
However, it's a free country (sort of) so do what you like.
My 6.5" Dlask came with the stock on and non-restricted status and non-restricted it will stay, and I've found with a red dot and Fed True flites I'm hitting with a very nice pattern at around 30 yds. or so( Take that, all you 6.5" barrel? Useless.naysayers.).
If you want a pistol grip, get a Speedfeed, or a Blackhawk, or an Ar. stock conversion adapter,make sure you're perma over the min. legal limit and you're good to go.

Funny how if it had the pistol grip attached from the factory, it'd be fine. Yet slap it on afterward and its restricted. Preaching to the choir here.
