How are you mounting your 858 weapons light??

Hello all!!

I have used the search function, and my "Search-fu" must be week.

I am looking for options to mount a weapons light on the 15" (read restricted version) of the 858. I am looking for effective, pratical ways to mount said weapons light so its use is expedient.

To be spesific, I plan to run:

-a SureFire mini Scout weapons light (aka Scout 300)

-a set of NEA hand guards set so I can run an Aimpoint micro or Comp3 red dot

Carbine looks like this:

I have additional rail segments (both 2.5" & 4"), and I am open to changing the front grip, but for the life of me can not figure out a way to mount the light so:

-I can easily access it

-positioned in such a way as to prevent negligent or accidental light engagement.

-its comfortable and expedient to engage said light

While I do not like to hang all kinds of kit on my Carbines, in my book a good weapons light is a "must have"

The final fly in ointment is I am a left handed shooterr

They say a picture is worth a 1k words, so if you have them, please post them.

Thanks in advance, and I look forward to all the constructive responses.

regard and all the best

The FabSport frt handguards have 2 rails on each side for mounting a light or laser or a ham sandwich as long as it's only a 6" from Subway.

Fabsports makes handguards for the 858? Do you mean Fab Defense? ABHobbyist, it would help to know what you have for handguards. If theyre railed, there are all kinds of mounts available, if theyre not than you can always mount an airgun ring with set screw to your bayo lug.

Gentlemen:

Alright thank you for making time to respond.

I suppose that as a key piece of the puzzle I left out.

I will update my above post with the nessisary info, criteria, and picture of the current carbine config so more constructive answers are possible

Satain:

I got to be honest:

a. That is a most excellent shorty carbine!!

b. I never thought of doing that way!!

As a rule I do not like Cable switches, but that set up may just work!!

Thx very much!!

If others have ideas please keep them coming.

I have my light mounted on the left side of my hand guard fairly far forward.
I have the same magpul front grip that you are using.
I use the momentary cap switch and press it with my thumb.

Remember it's not how it looks, it's how it works.

The switch that is shown in my photo provides either a click on or preasure on switch other wise I totaly agree with ya ;)
As for no rear irons do you realy think it's still like that?
Actually I have run some CQB drills were I did remove move my rear irons on my pistol and carbine back in the day. The drills ran under 25 meters for the carbine and under 5 meters for the pistol. Although it wasn't for this rifle platform. The point of it was to get the shooter realy on the front sight post and utilize proper point & shoot proceedures. Damm thoose were some fun time's. Should try that again at the range this weekend and see if I still remeber how to do it.

Shawn:

That looks really good, and it would allow me to position the light in such a manor that a cord would not be neccesary, and be out of the way when shooting support side.

Good thought!!

I am not familiar with MFI. How are they to deal with, and do you know if they will shipp to Canada??

NEA barrel clamp
+
Vltor QD Offset mount
+
Surefire G2X

Basicly the same setup as this, but with the QD lever light mount, as the NEA clamp only has 3 slots.

I have used a TLR-1 at 3 o'clock and it's okay. I trigger it with my left index finger.

My current plan is to get a Haley Thorntail mount and put one of my Surefires in it. The light will sit around 10-11 o'clock and I'll hit the pressure switch with my thumb.

I have tried a lot of setups and have never been 100% satisfied. The closest I got was a setup similar to Satain's but the springs in the tailcap were only good for a few hours of shooting before they would sag, which of course drove me up the wall, and led to me ditching it for the TLR, which I happened to have handy at a course.

Honestly, I got the mount almost 3 years ago. I don't remember anything bad about them so it must have gone well. And I did order it from the US so they at least shipped to Canada at one time.

Also I am left handed so that is why the light is on the right of the gun. And I activate it with my support thumb and it is supper easy and convenient in the location.

newb question... fellow cz858 owner(non restricted) with every tacticool part i could find minus a light, i dont usually shoot at night. What is the pupose of mounting a light? Is it just another nice accessory? Asking seriously as ive never understood lights on guns. thanks

I have been running a barrel clamp and it works awesome and takes up no space on the hand guards.

It has all different screws because I lost the right ones and had to go to the parts bin :D

Shawn

I run basically the same system only with a TLR-1 mounted underbarrel.
I had to grind the mounting bolts down about an inch because they were waaay too long.
Cheap(inexpensive) mount but works great.

If you ever do shoot at night it will probably become instantly apparent.
