I've owned just about everything at one time or another, and have decided that I like Glocks. Not because they're necessarily any 'better' than anything else, but because...

  • I shoot well with them
  • I don't like manual safeties
Really, buy a half-dozen guns, shoot 'em all, and sell whatever you don't like.

I agree! but I also sell almost every guns that I love, still have two g17s and two norincos, and a bearcat on the way home.

Buy a Norinco. Nothing wrong with them. It's pretty much the only way you'll get what you described below $1000 all in.

You will not buy one pistol and keep it forever, you'll always want to try something else.

As luck would have it, I'm selling both a Norinco Sig 226 clone and a Beretta 90-two with lots of mags.

Good luck finding something

Had the same issue when I went out to buy my first handgun. Ended up having to choose between the Beretta and the Glock. Fortunately, I was able to try both guns before I made my purchase. I ended up liking the Beretta a bit more, so the decision was just that. However, I did enjoy shooting both of 'em.

Good luck...your list seems to be quite promising, in that either pistol you choose will be a good one.

I haven't shot all these guns, but to answer the question of which is best under $800,
if sig is in this price range, then that's definately a great gun as is the CZ 75 series...
yes, you can buy two of norc models, but you asked best gun not guns for this price range..
glocks xd's M&P', all good too... I think the sig and cz are the better 2, but try to get hold of these to try yourself, before buying..

Just pick something. In a short while you'll buy another. And another.... and...

If you don't like it, sell it on the EE and buy something else...

They are all good.

I don't like Beretta because they feel enormous in my hand, and that exposed barrel is just weird-looking, to me.

Glocks are just... wrong, on so many levels, but loads of people love 'em.

I voted other: S&W M&P - I traded my well-used Sig P220 for an M&P in .45, and I couldn't be happier with the deal.

YMMV.

I'm in the CZ SP01 Shadow camp too... love mine, still working great after 10,000 rounds. Haven't experienced a slide stop failure as some on here are suggesting either.

I've got both a Beretta 92A1 and a CZ SHadow. As much as I love the Beretta look, I shoot the Shadow far better. It has a great grip, better sights (for me), and the additional weight makes it very stable.

Just go buy the first one you see. If you don't like it sell it on the EE for the same price or even a profit and move on to your next selection.
