No mini other than a Target model is even close to the accuracy of an XCR-L if you are commenting on the crap ammo that you probably used then I will agree crap ammo will make an XCR-L shoot as inaccurately as a mini does.
Geez, don't get me started with my experiences with the vaunted "target" mini. I had one, tweaked it, tried various loads for it and got rid of it because it was too inconsistent with anything (from crap to fine tuned handloads). My Ranch mini, pictured above IS consistent regardless of ammo. The groups may be a little wider with the cheap stuff and I have to hold over a little more, but I don't have to keep adjusting scope every time I choose to use cheaper ammo.
Again, to those considering a semi in 223, choose whatever you want. I love my Mini and know that it will function flawlessly. I know of guys whom use their AR's at the range, and they too function flawlessly. Maybe some can take theirs varmint shooting too, but really, when it really comes down to it who cares? Do whatever your gut suggests or what you wish to do.
My opinion, just like others on here, is just that - an opinion. It is not an expert treatise on the subject. Try to weed out the bias to form your own opinion to help you decide the matter. Then go to a store and get a feel for them. Also make sure which ones you can use in the field versus strictly at the range.
