Sad find today in the woods.

The man and his friends ,scouted the deer, made a plan, tracked and made a good push and then dropped the deer. Perhaps it was not one of those situations out of TV shows with the ominous music and the perfect shot by the great white hunter but it was an honest hunt and the man deserves a bit of respect..

Milo was a poor hunter/shot who struck gold IMO..Missed the same buck on three drives, before he finally shot it in the ass on the fourth drive..

He did get ''THE MONSTER''. Good on him...

Jealous..Not at all...I am proud that the world record is a Canadian buck.... I Just know when to call a spade a spade...

We may all proclaim to be the most perfect of hunters and shooters with the most perfect skill and laser beam like aim but the proof of the hunter is whats in the freezer and hanging on the wall..

LMAO...You jest I am sure....

I know whats on Milo's wall and BTW the next year he got another awesome buck . So yeah I think I'll beak off a bit to any one that puts down an honest hunter who earned his deer.

Do you???? Its a replica of the original rack on his wall...The original is actually owned by Bass Pro Shops, to whom he sold it to for over a million...He actually sat on it for over a year and let Cabellas, Bass Pro, and others have a bidding war on it.

Perhaps my statements may be of been taken a bit out of context. I was a little angry at how people seem to come down on some one who has had success by tagging a monster buck.

I've seen it happen more than once when a fellow takes a really big buck people immediately start put him/her down by slagging how they may have taken the deer.

As for the proof being on the wall or in the freezer that has a certain degree of truth to it. A hunter that puts in effort and diligence will fill tags. Maybe or rather most likely they'll never drop a boone and crocket monster but they will get a good one or two in their career.

Didn't know Milo sold the head but I guess a replica with a photo copy of the cheque makes for a good conversation piece.

He may not of taken the deer in the most glamourous display of shooting but he did drop it. I just wish people wouldn't critisise so much. It was taken within the rules and was fair chase. If it was me or you that did that I don't think we'd be complaining that we missed a shot and then got the deer.

( I know it was more than one or two )

wipe please

Ummmm.... thanks for your 3 posts in a row.... care to tell me why one guy that uses 9 shots to get a deer as well as all of the shots spent by his hunting party should be considered skill as he has a model 88?.....confused.. sorry... milo was a hack who got lucky....

Probably anyone who seen that size of deer would have suffered from a bad case of buck fever. He has the deer, what have you got?Dilusions.

As one who has shot many deer running, probably more than standing.
I'll take the criticism.
I agree that hunters who fail to follow up on a running deer shot are not really hunters at all.
Sometimes, it's hard to do when hunting private land. You need co-operative land owners on the next properties. Land owners that although they may not give you permission to hunt, will allow you to follow up on a deer that crosses the line.
It's one of the major reasons I hunt crown

Sorry to quote myself, but after some thought I felt it a must.

I recant my previous statement about Milo being a poor hunter. One doesn't have to be a crack shot to be a good hunter... I know many hunters who are poor shots, but are very good hunters...Bad choice of words on my part..

while any one of us would give a nut to have a chance at a deer like that, there's no denying that bagging that buck was 99.9% LUCK. 9+ shots for one deer? sloppy is a bit of an understatement. id remove myself from any hunting party with such horrible shooting skills. sounds like the "hunters" we all complain about...3 shots at a pizza pan at 50 yards and their rifle is zero'd

anyone taking a texas heart shot on a big game animal is an idiot. the size of an animals rack doesnt determine where you aim or justify low percentage shots. id rather let an animal walk than risk wounding and not recovering the animal.

Pretty free throwing out the idiot comments:cool:
While a texas heart shot is not a great place to shoot a deer, neither are head shots (IMHO) which some people like, I'm not enthused about neck shots either, but if you don't mind the gutting, a texas heart shot will kill them as good as any other shot! Something you apparently didn't know.

I have a freezer full of steaks, sausage and pepperettes from a deer I scouted and worked on for over a month.... same as I do every year... and yes, I live where I hunt.....

As I said, I am not against deer drives and glad for Milo he got lucky.... that being said my original response regarding MIlo was to post number 86 in this thread which stated that "Milo knew his sh1t".... Milo got lucky plain and simple.... he wasn't even with his hunting party at the time they spotted the deer..... he took 9 shots at it.... nine.... where I come from that means I would have to reload my entire rifle 3 times....lol....

Don't you think it would have been unfortunate if the worlds record whitetail ended up wounded and died without being recovered?.... or was recovered roadside like the world's non typical record?.....

ill stand behind my comment about anyone taking such a shot is an idiot. the only time this should be acceptable on a big game animal would be if it was already wounded and you're trying to finish it off.

excessive meat damage from a bullet hitting a hind quarter, nasty field dressing, spoiled meat from gut juices, and a much lower chance of hitting the kill zone. can you list ONE reason a texas heart shot on a big game animal would be a good idea? i know i can't.

How about any one not killing the deer with one shot is a idiot, this would put all the types of hunting on a even plane. The choice of shot would be up to the hunter and when they are all one shot kills there is no more discussion on the type of shot you take or style of hunting you prefer.I think knowing when to pull the trigger is more important than what style of hunting you prefer.I have not recovered deer in the past, that makes me a idiot unlike the perfect few.

We would all have to scout at least a month, before heading for the tree stand to ambush a big Ontario buck.Remember only one shot,is all we get.

Look... nobody is calling anyone who doesn't recover deer an idiot... an idiot is a hunter who takes a low percentage shot at a deer not caring whether the animal runs off and suffers etc.... Milo Hanson for example took 9 shots at the same deer.... 9.... that is nuts... and the only reason I even said anything about it is because somebody posted that Milo "knew his chit"..... hunt the way you want to hunt... just be ethical about it and follow up on your shots....

The distance is less than 150 yards. The area is totally safe to shoot with no issue about accidentally hitting human house property or anything else.

You are blocking a strip of brush and all of a sudden the biggest buck you have ever seen bursts out and starts running. What would you do ?

Line up swing smoothly and begin firing at the running animal or ...

Wait or rather hope he stops broadside long enough for you to drop prone and shoot over your back pack ?

Be honest.

Milo knows his s**t alright... He got the buck and you, super brad... did not.
It may seem unfortunate to some here that they dont have the privelige to hunt thousands of acres in a row, and dont need to spend hours entertaining themselves scouting and playing around in the bush..

Western hunters dont f**k around with that. They know where the game is and simply hunt them, whats the problem with that?.

Every shot at an animal is fully intended to kill it, untill youve been there behind the rifle, you will never know how it feels...:slap:
