I got out to my Uncles farm for the last day of muzzle loader season in my WMU. As I was still hunting slowly along the lake shore, I heard ravens making a ruckus up ahead. I was saddened to find this nice buck dead from a nasty low gut shot. Such a waste! :( and a painful way to die! This is the 3rd dead deer I have found on my Uncle's farm. The gang across the road run dogs & shoot at running deer before they cross the road into my Uncles farm. Irresponsible IMHO. Two years ago I had to shoot a spike buck that had it's lower jaw shot away.

Bush pushing at driven deer is by a long shot the sloppyest form of deer hunting. Of coarse all persons on discussion forums are crack shots at bounding deer though..and rarely if ever loose one....

Sad indeed...

This happens in all forms of hunting you can be assured....A poor shot is just that...Not to be blamed on those who do deer drives only...There are archers, and stand hunters who take iffy shots, and loose deer every bit as much as drivers...I hear stories all the time of hunters who have lost deer...Sad, but it happens. My father who is a trapper finds deer every year that were not recovered...Many of these are in areas where no drives take place.

It's not the method...it's the hunter....

Many are not responsible enough, mature enough, smart enough, not to take a low percentage shot at a deer. How many guys take their guns out without sighting them in??? Thinking boresighted is good enough???? Buy a crossbow go hunting the same day??? It's disgusting.

I bet in Ontario, the ratio of deer recovered versus deer hit and not recovered is pretty close to equal.

Very true...See it all the time

I would bet other provinces aren't a whole lot different...

yup i agree, thats why i dont like hunting big game by driving them into a frenzzy with dogs

This statement reminds me of the scene in the movie "The 40 Year Old Virgin" when Andy's friends figure out that he is a virgin. It was the scene when inexperienced Andy unthinkingly blurts out, "You know how when you grab a woman's breast... it feels like... a bag of sand."

Jesus Christ, way to throw other hunters under the bus. Not just the OP, the lot of you (mostly). How in the **** do you know it was killed by a guy who in a deer drive? If an anti wrote an article in a newspaper concerning gun ownership and used assumptions that big you guys would have no problems stamping your feet and shaking your fists, shouting obscenities.

Its sad to find a dead deer. Its sadder still to find hunters blaming others when they dont have one shred of evidence against them. Sounds like Wendy and gun ownership.

What a shame, if it's a recurring happening, maybe a call to the MNR would be in order.

The OP clearly stated he found multiple dead deers, we're not just talking about one bad luck shot here. He has valid suspicions on who may be responsible. We're not laying blame on anyone but suggesting to call the MNR. They will investigate and lay charges if necessary, that's their job.

Sad indeed.
Just wondering though if you are 100% sure the tear in the paunch was a wound from a rifle? Almost looks like the birds may have got to it first.
I know some of the larger ravens and magpies here in BC can sometimes open up the underbelly of a carcass as I've seen it firsthand.
Not discounting your forensic ability as I wasn't there to see it myself.
As one poster said it may be a good idea to call the CO.

Not sure what the MNR is going to do...or what charges they would lay....or if they would even come out.

It happens every year , I have stumbled upon many in similar fashion, some even just left, you see the tire tracks and foot prints , those ones are worse.

Like others have stated not likely the CO's would make it out, the resources they have are stretched thin as it is, it is disheartening but you just have to do your best when you hunt and carry on.

Looks like a scratch, don't think a deer would die from that. The moose I shot this year what got shot at one time. It had healed into a big puss ball, makes me want to puke thinking about it. Thats my opinion though, as I never saw the deer and the pic is pretty vague.
