SKS Stock. Which do you prefer?

I, foolishly, agreed to a 'diamonds for guns exchange' with my wife, she lets me have whatever the hell I want.

Personally, I have no interest in any more SKS's.

:D.....i know the feeling. I am still on the fence about my next Firearm purchase i was also looking at those M-305's or even one of those PPS-50 .22's they look like they would be a nice Target Rifle.

Any or would be really great! One of those two or a nice compact shotgun will be my next purchase. I just think an SKS is the best rifle to start with for fun factor, reliabilty and learning all the parts and how to maintain it...there's theres so many videos and info on them.

To be honest when i was first introduced to the SKS i thought it was some sort of AK........:D but your right they are very reliable and are easy to maintain and tough little Rifles... i also like the History factor of these guns.

I Tapco'd my C56 SKS with front handle/bipod and I love the sucker...Shoots exceptionally well...The original stock was a mess, I sanded it down and refinished with about 6 or 7 coats of Tru oil and it turned out fantastic...Nice thing is it has two pairs of clothes...If I want to back I can..Just finished doing a camo job on the Tapco clothing...Now it looks pretty cool...It is a really nice firearm however I dress it.

I'm thinking about an AR style rifle in .308...That's all I'm missing in my collection...oops except for a .45ACP...Any suggestions...I mean in the cheapo range of course for the pistol...I know AR's don't come cheap.
Then again neither do Gibson or Fender guitars or basses which I own a couple of....lol.

You can find some really nice factory wood stock out there...At cheap price !!!
I really like the russian redish laminated stock !!!

But the factory stock is just too short for me and I'm not a tall guy !!!
I bought a Tapco ( Timbersmith ) Monte-Carlo stock and I really like it !!!
Its longer and the balance is really good ( better than OEM ) and it look G@@D !!!

I bought my sks with a laminated stock with matching numbers. I found it was a loose fit to the receiver so I fiberglass bedded the rifle and now its as tight as can be and a little more accurate than it was before. It seems a shame to change a piece of history into a mall ninja so young men can get their rocks off. :jerkit:

I agree, but some young men, myself included, have limited budgets to invest in rifles...Plus the Chinese SKS's were produced in millions, so its not like its a big waste. :)

Can you post a picture of it installed? I'm thinking of getting on for mine.

The Timbersmith Monte Carlo is nice but I prefer the thumbhole stock over the Monte Carlo. Like I said before anything is better than the factory stock.

I would agree about the original wood if I wasn't 6'5". For me the original stock feels like a kids toy. I have a Timbersmith monte carlo stock on the way so hopefully it will make it more comfortable.

I don't get it, why is it such a sin to aftermarket stock a sks but its acceptable for the M14, CZ858, Mini 14, 10-22, and other respected rifles?
