PARA-ORDNANCE and North-Sylva poor warranty service

Had a Para SS LTC. Rear sight fell off first time I fired it. Bought a replacement, but never fit correctly because the dovetail was machined incorrectly. First and last para I owned.

It seems the only good ones were the 14.45's that were made in Canada for the very first run. After that they closed their doors and went to the states and all the problems started.

It seems a lot of warranty places in Canada are rather dismal customer service wise.

Fix the pistol, sell it at a loss, buy a Colt. :p

My email to Dan at North sylva was Jan 27, 2010 about the finish on the Para going to s**t after 120 rounds, still waiting for a response.

Like others have said, don't expect one from Dan. He never responded to a single email that I sent him when I was dealing with them. My own issues took 7 months to resolve.

Jeff on the other hand always promptly responded to my emails.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hear so much negativity about Para but in my Para 14.45 is one of the best shooters I have owned. Shes is an old girl made in Canada. Has the quality really gone down that much these days?

X2 - I've got an old 14-45 ("S" 4-digit serial number) tweaked for .45Super, and it's an awesome shooter. Sorry to hear about your experience, though! :(

I told my story on another forum in the states and the forum Boss got me in contact with Mr Travis Tomasie from PARA USA. He offered apologies and was not impressed with the way things went for me. So he offered something to fix my pistol. So now I'm the one impressed and I wished I could have dealt with him from the start. Anyway I will wait for the outcome and hopefully that will be a good ending. I'll let you know.

That is awesome!

The guy is a legend.

Had a few problems with north sylva myself, my unit was offered Para tour pistols from Para USA. They over charged us more then what Para told them to charge us. After getting no where with them, i went right to Para and actually spoke to one of the CEO's. After that believe it or not north sylva actually returned a phone call! Never will deal with them again, cudo's to Para USA for sticking with there word, and actually taking care of me and the boys. No one in my unit will be dealing with north sylva again.

Tony.

I purchased a pistol PARA model 1911, 16-40 LTD, 40S&W calibre on the internet from Ellwood Epps Ontario Canada and paid $1500 for it. Got a very good service from Ellwoods. I took it to the range to try it out. First round fires and the ambi-safety kicks in on its own. So I inspect the pistol closely to find out that the ambi-safety profile is improperly shaped, it’s sitting on top of the grip and touching the slide at the same time. So, in other terms it’s sandwiched between the grip and the slide. So it’s impossible to fire this pistol without it kicking into lock position every time because of the hard rubbing on the slide. So I informed North-Sylva from Toronto Ontario, they are the warranty centre for PARA in Canada. They took my complaint and contacted PARA USA. It took close to 5 months before I got permission to send my gun in for repair at North-Sylva. My request was for them to install the proper ambi-safety to fit this pistol. The ambi-safety on my pistol, when I purchased it, was not the same than the pistol shown on the PARA internet site. The profile of mine was bent down way to much. Mr George Wedge from PARA USA admitted that some pistol left the factory with a wrong match between the grips and the ambi-safety. Anyway, I get my gun back from North-Sylva 3 weeks later and all what they did is shave off a couple of millimetres from the top of the rubber grips and grinded a notch in the ambi-safety so that the safety plunger would hold it better to prevent it from kicking up when the pistol was fired. So the ambi-safety is still sandwiched between the grip and the slide and the pisol is still not working properly. It’s a $1500 pistol, it’s been close to six months now that I purchased it. I was told by North-Sylva that they didn’t have a spare ambi-safety. I really don’t know what to think, this story is really discouraging.
On their internet site PARA USA says that their Warranty service is excellent. Personally, in don’t think so.

I bought a Norc shotgun from ammsource, came with a busted mag clamp(made the gun un-fireable) I was forwarded to NS, they seemed to have good service until it came time to actually do something, I sent them pics with serial number. They told me that norc doesnt supply them with spare parts so they have no qay of fixin it and they just ended communication, no more emails, all calls to voice mail. Just gave up and chalked it up to you get what you pay for.

Yes Travis Tomasie is their new Pro shooter. He told me that they had a new team formed up and that they want customers totally satisfied. So I'll give the runners a chance.

Good News

Well Good News,

I received most of the parts to fix my pistol. Mr Travis Tomasie (Pro Shooter from PARA) help me out without any hesitation. He sent me, from the States to CANADA all the stuff required and I'm now waiting for a brand new pair of G10 grips VZ from para. They look awesome. I tried my pistol without any grips and it performs like nothing I seen before, very accurate pistol. So the problem in my case was not PARA USA.
Para is certainly trying to turn around but I believe they will have to go thru the storm first and solve their problems one at a time. They are up to a good start. You will need to be patient. But I'm well placed to understand how frustrating it is when you have paid good money.

This is a Happy ending for me and honestly I love this Pistol now that I can use it.
