I see some great deals on Savage Axis and 111 combo rifles. I have never owned a Savage, but at those prices I am tempted. Probably be a 22-250 or a 7-08. I have always thought of Savage as a second rate gun, no real reason to back it up. Please try to convince me that I should have one in the rack.

Why? Judge it for yourself. If you like the price...buy it, try it and decide for yourself what many of us here have already discovered. They are a damn good rifle.

If you don't like it...sell it. No sweat.

I have an axis. For a new gun at that price you are not going to find anything better. They go bang and are reasonably accurate. 1.5" or even better is possible. The trigger is tougher than nails so I put a rifle basix replacement in mine and that made the rifle quite reasonable to shoot.

You get what you pay for a cheap plastic rifle that shoots. Wholesale is having a boxing day sale and they'll be under $300 for a rifle and scope.

I love my savage in 300wm and my stevens in 2506. Basically same action. Great accurate reliable guns for not much coin. I can deal with stevens 200 ugly but not savage axis ugly. They feel weird in my hands. Buy the savage you will love it

2 best groups I have ever shot were with a Stevens 200 in .223!

Stevens 200, 5 Shots, 100m:

Those ar 1 inch squares/circles! ;)

Had 2 Savages, one Model 16 in 300WSM and a 10XP in .204 Ruger.

Both Guns shoot (shot) very good, accurate as I need them to be. The triggers as previously mentioned are one of the best designs out there IMHO

But, I have noticed a few little things that bugged me, my .204 has a blemish on the bolt face that leaves happy faces on the back of my cartidges and the action assembly on my .300 was a tad sloppy and it didnt feed rounds through very nicely.

For the price though, they are a sweet gun.

You need to have at least one in your rack!!

You need to buy and try....and change your 'thoughts'..;)

You should get one.

There, I tried. It's not my fault if you pass up those bargains and never get to know the satisfaction of buying a new rifle for a price that is so low you keep wondering how it can shoot as well or better than other brands that cost a lot more.

I've got two Stevens 200's (22-250 and 300 win mag), basically a savage 111 with no accutrigger. They're both crazy accurate, and they're simple and reliable. And for the price, they can come along anytime and if they get a scratch I don't care. I find them to be the best current production rifle for the money for a practical shooter/hunter like myself.

agree. I've read that some guys are finding the Axis is accurate enough but it leaves me cold because of both the ugliness of it as well a some really cheap design features like a really tiny surface for primary extraction.

If you buy a Savage with the Accutrigger and Accustock you won't be disappointed.

If you want an ugly, chinsy rifle that shoots the same as every other rifle on the market and costs the same have at 'er.

Theres no more "savage bargain" with savage anymore.
