I am seriously thinking of buying one of these in .223 for Target Shooting they are also available in other Calibers too but the .223 seems more affordable Ammo wise and the Rifle itself is only $329.00, Just wondering what you guys think... are they a decent Rifle?
Thanks

I have one that I use as a coyote gun & I have had no problems with it. It did have a fairly heavy trigger (6lbs) so I changed the trigger spring to a lighter one. Got it down to around 3.5 lbs.

Great gun. Great value.

As for the ejection issue....The issue is ammunition related actually. Firing cheap PRVI ammo it will fail to eject quite frequently (and you'll have to remove the casing from the breach yourself) but I only used the PRVI ammunition just to get on paper. I used Hornady Superformance to fine tune the scope in and that's all I hunt with (and all I put through the gun now). They have ejected perfectly every time.

So this gun doesn't like cheap ammo with poor manufacturing tolerances I guess..

The gun shoots great though. It's a tack driver.

Thanks Jäger Good to know...i have 3 SKS Rifles and they are great fun to shoot but i would like to get a plinker with a scope as well for those longer ranges.

I asked that same question earlier this year, when thinking of a .223 for target shooting. I received more positive feedback than negative on that model, so I did purchase one.

My thoughts on the rifle are more to the positive, but there are a few things that make it a little less than perfect for me.

The scope that came with it was replaced first thing, of course, but that's kind of secondary and a matter of preference.

On occasion it won't pick up the next round. You have to make sure the magazine is in properly.

I find the trigger to be kind of a "surprise, I bet you didn't think I would fire yet, did you?" I don't know how else to describe it, but it could be better.

My best group with it is .625 at 100 yards. It averages slightly more, and all my groups are 5 shot. The ammo used is a load I worked up to, that consists of 53 grain Hornaday Match bullets, and 19 grains of H4198 with CCI primers in Federal cases.

Over all, I like the rifle and I like the .223 for the "fun factor" in shooting. That's my $.02 worth.

I was looking at the different Calibers for this Rifle but i am leaning towards the .223 as a friend of mine had a .223 with him the last time we were out to the Range and it was great fun to shoot with low recoil. Thanks for your input i think this will be my Rifle for the new Year...quite honestly the price is very appealing too...:D

Between myself and 2 buddies we have 3 Axis' in .223Rem. Trigger kinda sucks but was fixed with cutting off 2.5 coils off the rear tirgger spring and now it breaks at JUST over 4 pounds. With the stock scope and cheap privi or american eagle .223 we can hit pop cans at 200 yards all day and can hit 2L bottles at 300 yards just off a block rest or a backpack....more then good enough for me.

BEST deal out there IMO.

On a side not...does anyone find it almost TOO light? I am wanting to pick up another one in .243Win thats stainless/camo but I think I might try to add some weight into the hollow of the stock.

I was looking at the AXIS youth then I went into another place and handled the 11/111 youth package that was on sale for the same price as the AXIS. I think Im going with the 11/111 now.

I wasn't shooting PRVI it was federal fmj. I think the ejection port is a little too small as it seems to not make it out of the port

Does anyone know if they will take after market triggers and barrels made for Savage actions?

Picked up a rifle basix trigger for my stevens for under 100. This trigger will fit this gun. Barrels have no idea. But if you want to spend more money on this gun just buy a better savage.

Was offered $400 for my axis in 223rem I wouldnt sell it for that. Bought a .30-06 stainless one for deer both excellent guns. Wouldnt trade them for something 3x the cost.
