IPDA/Ipsc Holster Recommendation

At the recent IDPA World Shoot Blade Tech and Com Tec were the two dominant holsters. They are well made and work. The Wilderness style belt is an excellent choice. Get it in 1 3/4" width. If you want to wear it all the time get the one with the polymer buckle. The buckle makes going through airport security so much faster. You won't have to entirely undress when you hit the scanner.;)

A double mag pouch and four mags for you gun and you are set for IDPA. You will need to add another double mag pouch and two more mags to play IPSC if you decide to go that route.

As been said the DOH is not legal in IDPA. Learn the draw with an IDPA compliant holster and you won't be hampered if you shoot IPSC.

Buy quality once and you will save money in the long run. Enjoy the sport, get involved and have fun.

I like the Blade Tech DOH - it looks nice. But can you actually wear it with the DOH feature installed for IDPA?

As far as belts go, I ordered a DAA competition belt and a few of their mag holders also. Hopefully that will get me buy for a belt and mags...

The DOH kits are convertible back and forth - so you can remove the drop & offset piece when needed. As noted earlier, 2 piece belt is not allowed in IDPA but some folks do play with just the inner belt of the 2 piece systems - but that basically negates some benefits of having a 2 piece...

The DAA mag pouches don't appear to be IDPA legal, but unless you're shooting sanctioned matches people may not care too much.

I have read the rule book, I have just reviewed the photo and text on pages 36-37, and my opinion stands.

Then you have a reading comprhension problem. ;)

Furthermore, I personally know of at least one Master Class IDPA shooter that uses 771 mag pouches and he hasn't had a problem including going through the equipment checks at numerous National (and State/Regional)Championships.

If the 771 mag pouch exposes more than 2" of the mag as measured from the top of the cartridge rim down the back of the magazine tube then they are not legal. IF they do not they are legal. Whether or not some Master Class shooter uses them is not relevant, nor is the fact he hasn't been caught IF they are not legal.

The fact they were inspected at more than one major match and found to be compliant is VERY relevant.

How many major matches have you shot?

Not necessarily so. It happens. The pouch is either legal or it is not - see above for definition. From the picture on the their website it is difficult to tell without measuring the mag holder. If I had to guess it likely isn't from the picture but angles can be deceiving. The fact the holder got by at a match doesn't make it legal. There was at least one illegal stage at the recent World Shoot. Doesn't make shooting tactical sequence beyond 10 yards a legal stage. It just means somebody forgot to measure the distance and nobody noticed it until after the match.

Just measured mine. > 2-1/2" of magazine is covered by the 771 pouch. (both 1911 and glock mags in their respective pouches)

That should settle the argument whether Safariland 771 mag pouches comply with IDPA rules or not.

I do carry concealed sometimes - hoping to get something that translates from work to play! :)

IMO, the Raven magazine pouches are much more concealable than the others (Comp-Tac, Blade-Tech, Safariland).
For one-hand fast-on/fast-off, advantage Comp-Tac.
For maximum concealability, advantage Raven.

I got a rigger's belt that I am pretty happy with.

In regards to the DOH holsters....take my word for it, sometimes the DOH part is not easily removed!

Doesn't the rule book state it must cover 2" inches of the magazine measured from the cartridge rim and also the front face? No mention of any other exposure limits?

The magazine requirements are set out on Page 36/37 of the rule book located here: http://idpa.com/

To answer your question: yes
