Just bought my dad a SS Axis in .243 so he can make a couple stands with me this winter when he feels like it.

Bought myself a Savage 111 in .308win. For deer hunting next fall

Both guns came to $738 with shipping

Own a 30-06 and a .223 Axis. The 30-06 is currently not sighted in, but the .223 shoots excellent groups with factory ammo at 100...and that's just with the package scope..

Bought a .223 in stainless. Blued were sold out.

Took off the junk 3-9 Bushnell and put on an equally junk 6-18 Bushnell that was in the safe.

Was thinking it would be kinda of cool to fab an adapter up that would allow the use of AR type mags in this rifle. Thing is that this rifle was cheap enough that I might just do that to see if it can be done.

If you dropped a 250 dollar axis on the ground the only reason I would pick it up would be to put it on the ee for 350.. (You pay shipping)... It looks like something my kid would make in a play-doh mould...

The 111 is a much better deal and worth the extra coin...

I couldn't buy a rifle like that, a rifle has to have character, you have to be proud to own it, it should have nice wood and steel, no plastic...that's just me.

A rifle in an inanemate object. It's only attributes are those applied to it by its owner.

Some are art.
Some are heirlooms with sentimental meaning.
Some are things of beauty.
Some are toys.
Some are tools which get a job done with varying degrees of ability.

Obviously, you're somewhere near the top of that list. That's fine but other people are just looking for tools.

All of that said, I had an Axis in 30'06 and it had some major issues. Aditionally, I found the design, fit and finish inferior to the 111.

The 111 is absolutely worth the extra coin.

Maybe you got a lemon, but the "junk" package scope is actually not terrible...and seems to be holding up quite nicely to the .223. No issues so far and the optics remain clear. However I haven't hunted with this rifle yet so I don't know how it looks in low-light conditions. On the shooting range in the middle of the day however....

3 shots w/ factory ammo (Hornady Superformance 53gr poly-tips) @ 100 yards with the bushnell package scope and factory trigger. The only thing non-standard on the gun are the Leupold bases and rings.

i have heard that they are hit and miss. i had a simmons on my savage package and everyone said to throw it away but it was awesome. held zero until i mounted it on the 22 mag which needed to be sighted in of course. 22 mag has a rough life and still holds zero great. i think the only issue with the package scope is quality control. so either you get a good one or you simply dont.
