OK boys, talk me into a Savage

I will assume that the package is priced at $500.00. I would place that $500.00 as a down payment on a good quality firearm. As as serious big game hunter I wouldn't chance a cheap second rate gun. Don't forget, "you get what you pay for".

Have you ever owned one or hunted with one. Any examples of why you "wouldn't chance one" ? Lets hear some solid personal experience backing up your opinion. How about some examples of what a cooper, kimber or weatherby can do that a savage can't

I can't see why someone wouldn't "trust" a Savage on an important hunt. They may be roughly finished, and perhaps not of appealling aesthetics with the barrel nut design, but if it shoots accurately for you, I see no reason to believe it more likely to fail during use than the average gun.

Ive never had one fail ever.

I have a Savage 111 30-06 that I've been hunting deer with for the last three years. Using it out and about in -30c to above 0 conditions, in the bush, in the truck, and everywhere in between. I've experienced:

No feed failures
No extraction failures
No issues with the stock
No issues with wear
No safety issues
No accuracy issues

and most importantly...no problems bringing home a buck with it every year.

And that's with the package scope it came with, which I'll agree isn't anything phenomenal.

Where do I begin. First of all I never owned, shot or used a Savage rifle for big game hunting or target shooting. I have picked them up in sporting good stores and found that their action to be very rough. Balance, fit, finish, quality of material are quite inferior to a good quaility firearm.
I truely believe that the Savage's shoot accurate, work well in most or all hunting conditions, "but" I personally don't want to gamble on the firearm when out in the field.
You can say that I'm a bit of a gun snob where I perfer the best quality firearm that I can afford. I can clearly understand if a person/hunter dosen't want to invest their hard earned money on a expensive gun and put it towards paying bills or a retirement fund. However, I want to be in the field with confidence in my rifle that it won't let me down. I'm only playing the odds by purchasing/hunting with the best and not gambling with the cheapest on the showroom rack.;)

You cant compare a Savage Rifle To the other three brands of firearms that you listed above!!

It's like comparing Saskatchewan and Alberta Highways.Sure the highways in saskatchewan can get the job done like Albertas highways, but the Truth is Saskatchewans highways are Junk, just like a savage Rifle!

And, the guys ranting about not trusting them, seem to be having a tough time coming up with personal, real life examples of how they are prone to failure. Gotta love people who know so much about something they have no experience with

Working the bolt of a savage Rifle is like Ramming a stick into a garbage can full of small rocks !!!

And the accutrigger....What A P.O.S

i have a stevens model 200 sitting in a boyds thumb hole stock with a cheap bushnell on it with an old harris bi pod and its very accurate. ive shot c 14's and c 15's and yea they are accurate too. but my stevens only cost me 320 dollars.

stock-116
scope-160
bi pod- had it forever
rings and bases- 8 dollars.

does it shoot? hell yea. i have 10 other guns but none are as accurate or as fun as my 22-250

I drive Alberta top to bottom and both Alberta and Saskatchewan side to side at least twice a year. All I can say I think you drive about as much as you shoot Savage rifles......

I generally don't pipe in on these threads but am finding I can't resist this one. I own a fair number of rifles and I enjoy shooting them all. In fact, if it can't or shouldn't be shot then I won't own it. I have Rugers, Winchesters, Marlins, Remingtons, TC's, a Steyr, and a couple customs on Mauser actions. No Kimbers or Coopers yet but I agree , they sure are purdy.

I've always wanted a Savage as I've heard about their accuracy for a long time. When my teenage daughter announced a couple years ago that she wanted to take up hunting not only was I thrilled but I saw it as a good enough reason to finally buy a Savage. I picked a model 16 in 7mm 08 SS in Accustock. It is simply the best shooting rifle I own and when my daughter and I headed out for her only day of Deer hunting this past fall I grabbed the Savage. Yes the 7mm 08 suits her, but so do my 6.5's and 270's. I grabbed it because I knew the bullet was going to go where it was aimed and after months of practice she was ready for her part. She flattened an 8 point WT at 260 yards with a perfectly placed shot and I never had a doubt.

Don’t be put off by others opinions of a Savage. I own nicer looking and more expensive rifles but none shoot like my Savage. Try one for yourself and come to your own conclusion.

And this was the most important hunt of my life.

Happy shootin

Just like i suspected. Nothing to back it up. Just ignorance. Talking down our highways is sure a good, real world example of why you can't trust a Savage. That just shows why your opinion on this thread is worthless. I asked for real life examples, not 10 year old intellect

Your first 2 lines were all you needed to say.

 I hunt with nothing but savage and have a nice collection of trophy deer shot in cold weather. Your statement has no logic behind it. The proof is hanging all over my walls

No one in my Family uses savage rifles and the Racks are hanging on our walls.Look at this alright W\T buck shot in 2011 with a Browning A-Bolt 30-06
250 yards through the heart!! have you shot any nice whitetail in SK? or just dumb donkey deer?

I have a browning A-bolt medallion. It look good but but i wont take it hunting. And also i wouldn't shoot a deer that small and admit it. looks kind of like a jackalope

Why wont you take your A-Bolt out hunting? That makes no sense what so ever!

You mentioned that you shot all these Trophy bucks with your savage in the cold weather, got any pics?

I love looking at antlers and the 2011 buck looks far from a Jackalope!
