Bucket lists

A polar bear with a bow? Considering how dangerous those things are reputed to be, that idea hadn't even crossed my mind. No doubt it was a memorable hunt!

Actually IMagius, the polar is the most layed back bear I've ever encountered, we had to move camp because a 6' sow adopted us and we couldn't risk it. She would come within 10 ft of us in camp and lay down, we'd holler and chase her away and 15 min later she'd be back 50 ft away watching us, but never in the three days she "stayed" with us was she even the slightest aggressive.

To answer your question, as with Fred no I had to 338 the bear, not because he charged us but he waded into the dog string and started roughing up the dogs. The old Eskimo went nuts and threw the rifle at me screaming SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT He's killin' my dogs. Which I did and sorely regreted later. I hated those f.......g dogs, he could have killed them all for all I cared. Regardless another top 5 record animal that can't be entered.
My shot was perfect too and only 18 mts out, I've kicked myself many times, he would have died in seconds (heartshot) and who cares if he killed a couple of mangy currs.

Sheep dont holdout ,I never did see that grizz you took with 300 wm.

Hmmm....I don't seem to have that one on my computer...guess I need to scan it. How about this one that Vanessa killed this year with a .338. This one makes mine look tiny anyhow...lol

Tremendous pictures everybody !
This awesome thread just keeps getting better and a huge thanks for adding the rifle info.... makes it all the more interesting !!

Now that's a grizzly, WOW, WOW, WOW !!!!!!!!!

NICE bear, congrats to the little lady.

What did the skull measure, he looks like a 25 incher to me.

He's never been scored but if I remember correctly, by the measurement the biologist took, he was 23 and change. I know his head looked awfully big at 9 yards when she shot him...lol.

She was using a 225 grain Interbond in the 338WM.

It is rare that I ever get pictures of myself with anything I have hunted (I despise having my picture taken), but here is one of my checkmarks on my bucket list from a few years ago ... My first two Canada Geese ... and boy were they tasty :D

You guys interested in seing all the little $h1t from Africa too? Good to see some others pics here too, keep 'em coming.
You know what IMagius, I'm jealous I have never shot a Canada and wasn't for lack of trying when I lived in Alta.

I'm interested in seeing any game pics, regardless of which continent they are on. First Gopher, first lion, etc.. Each is a memory and experience to that hunter, and it's nice to share it with them in some way.

Thanks for the story on the polar bear as well.

While never on my bucket list, this little guy is without question one of the biggest surprises I've ever hunted. There was no way I would have believed the terrain they inhabit and the ease they move around it. They make our mountain goats looks like whimps. One of my smallest trophies but one of my most cherished.

I took this chamois in New Zealand at 412 yards with the 270WSM and 130 grain GMX

Good ... ! Wow. Yukon walrus has big horns - Dangerous ...... hah
Who you calling a walrus, is my horn showing in this photo? I hadn't noticed that before, most people are looking at the ELEPHANT.............lol

He was not as big as we were hoping for, but we got busted while trying to gauge him, at 20 mtrs, and he made the decision for us leaving me NO choice. So he took a 400 gn Sledgehammer solid "right 'mongst the lookers", that was exciting. These are the most aggressive, evil, nasty, ill-tempered, terrifying animals I have yet hunted........................but there's still penguins.

Mule deer, antelope, Dall Sheep, Grizz, Gemsbok, Zebra, Leopard, Sable, Polar Bear

Of this list (good one too), if you are saving for any one in particular I would recommend polar bear first. It is questionable how much longer we will be allowed to hunt them with all this focus on them, being the "poster child" of the global warming crowd.
They were reopened for US entry a few years back and then reclosed a couple years ago, due to public opinion down there, so I think it's only a matter of time...............Good news is the price has dropped without US hunters.

Hey sheephnter, what time of year did you hunt NZ and was it the best time?

Maybe next hunt, still working out details.

We went late April and caught the tail end of the stag roar, the fallow deer rut and some tahr had great coats. I think the timing was perfect for a combo hunt like we did.
