Rapid Z 1000 on a 25-06??

with that rapid 1000 theres a few retical lines above the main crosshair and below it .seems to clustered in there to me.

Bear in mind that the rapid-z reticles were designed with certain caliber classes, and most importantly bullet speeds, in mind.

The z 1000 was engineered specifically for the .308 Win, for bullets with an fps of 2500 to 2900ish. As the typical 25-06 cartridge has an fps over 3000 (some over 3500), the z-1000 will not fit properly - when attempting to calibrate the reticle with the rapid-z calculator, you will find that no scope has enough magnification to optimize the reticle for a 25-06 load.

The best fit for a 25-06 would be the rapid-z varmint, which was designed for faster, lighter grain bullets. The rapid-z 800 could also fit, for the slower 25-06 loads (i.e. less than 3300 fps).

That being said, while the z-1000 is not the optimal reticle for the 25-06, it can be made to partially fit; bullet choice would be critical here and a slower, heavier load would have to be selected (i.e. such as a Winchester 115gr silver ballistic tip, which floats at just over 3000 fps) over some of the lighter, flatter shooting loads.

Maybe I should just stick with the mil-dot reticles that I have been using on the Zeiss??

The rapid-z reticles are very effective, however as with any precision instrument, they must be setup correctly.

I am more than happy to help determine which reticle is best for your needs. Do you currently have a 25-06 load that you are using? If so, provide me with the load details - for an off the shelf cartridge I just need the manufacturer and description (i.e. Winchest 115gr ballistic silvertip); for a handload, I need the bullet speed and the bullet coefficient of the bullet that you are using.

Haven't developed a load yet, it is a brand new rifle.

Just wondering what success others have been having.I do like reticle #43 for my target rifle , this one however will be a dual purpose deer/coyote setup and I am going to try to keep it to one load.My intention is to use 100gr TSX for my bullet but I want to try the Rapid Z reticle as I am not needing to have the precision necessary for target use, just critters.

The Rapid-Z will do both holdover hunting & accurate placement equally well.

After setting your predetermined zero, you can use the the holdover reticle for your load at the appropriate magnification for quick hits at multiple ranges.

If varminting, you can use the turrets for 1/4 MOA adjustments. Turret adjustment does not affect POI at different magnifications, so max magnification or lowest, makes no difference.

Really, its a no brainer considering how versatile this system is - the RZ600 & RZ1000 are less cluttered than the RZ800.
