Kel-Tec are producing a short barreled shotgun (SHS) version of the Kel-Tec KSG . The KSG patrol has a 16.1" barrel (24" overall length) and the KSG Tactical has a 13.7" barrel (21.4" overall length). The shorter length decreases weight while improving maneuverability.

If the tactical model could be brought here and sold for the right price I don't think the restricted part would bother some gunners (like myself). I'd say for $800 or under it would sell but i'm sure it would be more. There are only a few restricted shotguns out there so this would be on the lower end of that price spectrum.

The non-res version is going to be $990 iirc. Why would this "tactical short barrel" one be almost $200 cheaper?

I have no idea what it would be price wise, I was just saying "if" it was $800ish it may sell, anymore i'd strongly doubt it. Regardless, I agree a restricted shotgun priced more than the non-restricted version wouldn't sell. The "why" it would be priced under i'm not sure either, just a guess....a poor one in all likelihood.

They're neat but a regular KSG is more than short enough IMO, even without Restricted and NFA status coming into the picture I don't see what you're really gaining here.

I'll echo what others have said... I prefer the longer barrel version... gun is more than compact enough, and is non restricted... watch out spring turkey...

Turkey threat pending kel-tec producing the promised choke adapter and my position on the list being high enough...

US DoS/ITAR will forbid export of any NFA weaponry without a valid end user certificate to LE/mil/etc. You will not see these up here legally. Sorry guys.

Barrel length a non issue but I thought OAL has to be 26" or above to be non restricted? The Tactical model is under 26"
No, it's doesn't, depending who you ask to interpret the law.

As long as it hasn't become under 26" by "folding, collapsing, or some other means". It was built that length, so that's the length it is. Same idea as the 12" or 8" barreled shotguns. Those really short ones were only deemed restricted because the RCMP decided they were designed to be fired one handed, therefore they are handguns. You can't make the same argument when the shotgun has a stock.

These shotguns, if they could even get here, would be either non-restricted or prohibited.

That's what I thought. I know that someone (Wanstalls, maybe?) imported some 24" Lever guns that were deemed non-restricted. No reason why the KSG wouldn't follow the same trend.

Semi Auto centre fire to be Non restricted have to be 26inchs Over all length long (If it folds and can be fired messure to the fold) They also require a barrel lenght of 18.5 as well. anything shorter barrel or over all length restricted. Now Non Semi Auo Centre fire only have to be 26 over all length

i have a 8.5 grizz, with fixed or colapsable stock, over all lenth is greater than 26"
if i put on a folder, or pistol grip, its under 26", and barrel lenth under 18.5" and therefore restricted...right?..lol

My interpretation is this:

Manually operated shotgun (pump, bolt..etc)
Minimum barrel length 8.5"
OAL when fully closed to shortest possible length needs to be greater than 26"
If all these criteria are met, it is non-restricted.

This includes; pistol grips, folding stocks, bird head stocks, etc.

So close/collapse your shotgun to the shortest fireable length and then measure it.
