Tumbling media

Rolling - Stainless Steel (for Polishing and Cleaning).
Vibratory Polishing - Corn Cob.
Vibratory Cleaning - Walnut.

Non rolling or vibrating - Green scrubbie + Soap + Elbow grease.
 
I thought about using other media with my new tumbler as it came with a bag of corn cob, but after using the corn it got the brass nice and shiny. That is all I want plus I don't care how long it takes to become nice and shiny. FS
 
I like a blend of the green treated corn cob and the walnut that has jewlers rouge in it, mix them 50/50 in a rolling style. Cleans and polishes very nicely and after firing it, the cases are still pretty clean and any residue comes off really easily due to the polish thats left behind.

Oh and both are available at wholesale sports for cheap
 
Walnut. Much faster cleaning than corncob. Dont bother with gun-store media. Can be found on the cheap at pet stores (reptile bedding) and at prince$$ Auto in the sandblasing media dept. Pays to find a few buddies that all want the same and buy in bulk. Add a bit of Brasso and voila.

Brasso contains 5-10% ammonia which is NOT recommend for brass cases, many users have recommended using Nu-Finish car wax in place of Brasso.

I use SS pins to clean and polish my brass.

Why is that anyway? I've read that a few places but no one ever has a reason.

Brass ... Brasso ... It kinda seems to go together.

The reason to NOT use ammonia is...

Anhydrous ammonia is not compatible with copper, brass, bronze, zinc or mercury. Ammonia corrodes copper and brass into a blue-green salt.

That's why I previously cautioned against the use of ammonia on your brass cases and instead suggested the use of Nu-Finish car wax.

I don't use Nu-Finish because I clean with SS media.

That being said, there are tons of people on here that use it religiously, just do a search. How much to use, I guess that would depend on the size of your vibrator. Most people seem to recommend 1 to 2 tablespoons but I'm sure others will chime in with their recommendations. The trick is to let your vibrator run for 10 to 15 minutes after applying the Nu-Finish, and prior to adding your brass. This gives it plenty of time to mix in evenly with your media. You do NOT have to add it every time you clean your brass.

Well, it's been a while since we had a "don't use Brasso" post. Could someone please post a link to John Y Cannuck's experiment/post that he did a year or two ago that disproves this myth ? Thanks.
 
I just picked up 50lbs of walnut sandblasting media, threw it in my tumbler with some .223 brass and a used bounce sheet on top. The result was the brass COVERED in dust, inside and outside of the casings... am I doing something wrong here?
